Life Building, Kansas City, Mo The republican program in Indian;. —to discuss the tax question and other state issues ten days and then dismiss it—would be fine if the peo pie would aggree to it, but from the rumblings heard, we doubt if it will bo completed until the polls close on November 7th. A leading republican of the district was recently invited to make speeches over the state and replied that before accepting same he wanted to be per fectly trank and thought they should know that he intended to vote foi Tyndall for congress. Silence, com plete and mysterious followed the letter and the chances are that it will remain several feet thick. John Tyndall has started his cam paign to be elected to congress ano is speaking in various parts of Madi son county this week. He will con tinue to canvass the district and it will not be his fault if the ticket b not elected in the old eighth. He if deserving and wherever he goes is making progress. Every citizen her< should assist him. LL With a registration of about forty five percent in Adams county, the showing is perhaps as good as anj made in the state and shows rea interest. work will be necessary. Several of the committeemen will make a systematic canvass of their precinct to secure a complete registration. Let's make It 100%. I II ■■■ I. Every member of the Decatur Industrial Association is urged to attend tho meeting this evening and if you are not a member thia will be a good time to start in. Secretary Center has issued a bulletin that every one should read and members will do well by reading the letter carefully and then turning it over to some one who does not belong but should. Be a booster. It pays. During the ten days beginning September 14th when tho republican speakers will explain the tax situation of Indiana we will of course learn exactly why it cost >114,641,000 to operate the state last year while n 1915, under Sam Ralston, the total taxes raised amounted to only $50,828,000 and the entire state debt was paid off and several million left in the treasury. Some explanation necessary boys and we admit we are anxious to learn just what it will be. ■H-JL.. 18—— Attorney General Daugherty has pulled a boner in his suit ?or a restraining order against the railroad shop crafts, the general opinion be ing that his request is one which granted would tear another hole in the constitution. However, the at torney general must be protected as far as possible and consequently the
let down will be made as easy as
possible. The temporary order was continued ten days at the hearing in Chicago yesterday. Four years ago this coming November the affairs o£ the government were voted over to a republican congress under promises that the war problems and other economic questions would be speedily and properly disposed of. As a result we have a tariff law which if finally put into effect will cost the people two billion dollars in increased living costs and congress has established a record for marking time and doing nothing never before equalled in the world. You will soon be called upon to vote your approval or disapproval of their action. What will you answer? I There is much to be done by this community and that's the idea of the Industrial Association. It is not an organization which fixes prices or tries to conduct your business but instead has but one idea—to assist the community. That should also be your ideal and you ought to get into the game if you are not taking part. Forget any feelings against the other fellow. link up with the men and women who are trying their level best to do things and help make this the best town on earth. Yeomen officials admit we are one of the six best with a good chance of being number one. That's a fine record but with 100% co-operation we can make it so clear to them and to every one else, there will be no shadow of a doubt. With the three-fourths of the returns in from Maine this morning the republicans showed a loss of more than 22,000 votes while the democrats gained something over 5,000. The state which gave a republican majority of more than 60,000 two years ago this year will show a lead of about one-third that number. ( The vote will be analyzed, by politiccians now but proves nothing except that the trend is .towards the democratic party and is decidedly against the administration. This fact has been conclusively proven by the primaries held in many states. It the democrats secure an organization au<l the people awaken to the fact that to secure changes in tax laws and other matters beneficial, the result will bo a complete reversal of that of two years ago.' The campaign in Indiana promises to be a rather heated one befoia the votes are counted on November 7th. o—■■ ■ -ZZZZZZS JUST RECEIVED A NEW SHirMLNT OF PLUSH COATS MRS. M. MOYER. 131 N. Bth st. 1 I
