I Fort Wayne Firm Submits Only Bit! Under the Estimate ndlanapolls, Aug. 3 —J. <* O I Conner A Sons, of Fort Wayne, submitted the low and only bld under the engineer's estimate for the construction of three and one-half miles of the Lincoln Highway, front the Illinois state line to Schererville, in Lake county, nt the opening of bids by the state highway commission, John D. Williams, director, announces. The low bid was for a concrete pavement and the Fort Wayne firms proposal was $71,686.25. The highway engineer's estimate for the project was $75,558.56. Three types of pavement were specified in the department’s advertisement, but bids only were received for concrete surface. Highway < ngineers estimated the cost to pave this project with bituminous concrete would be slOl, 867.43, and with brick. $124,111.48. On two other occasions bids were opened on this particular project, first on June 13 when all proposals were above estimates, and again on ; July 5 when one bidder was under; the estimate but the commission did not award a contract. According to Liber the survey will be used toward protecting the state from devastating floods and will insure a permanent) supply of pure i water. To gunge the streams the depart ; ment will establish a series of stations. As soon as possible after the - first ten stations are established others will be installed on the Wabash river at Huntington.
