("h at Hell- 1 niont Park by a score of 9 to 8. The game was fast and well played, and 1 was neither sides victory until the ' finish. The locals displayed a good brand of baseball and displayed the fact that they have a team worthy of support. ( —a — CLOVERLEAFS LOSE OVERTIME GAME TO HUNTINGTON SPECIALS SUNDAY AFTERNOON 1 The Decatur Cloverleaf baseballi* team accompanied by a number of rooters journeyed to Huntington yesterday afternoon where they clashed with the fast Huntington Erie Specials in accordance with the Northern Indiana Semi-Pro league schedule and were forced to return , home defeated, the game resulting in an eleven inning affair with the , locals holding the short end of the score which stood 7-to 6. The game was well played by both teams and was nip and tuck throughout. Nagel and Kolb formed the battery for the locals, Nagel allowing a total of fourteen hits while the Cloverleafs found the Huntington twirler for eight hits, the locals registering their clouts in times when they were needed. Both sides’ were marked with uncalled sorer- ' rors which aided in the scoring and added excitement to the game. The locals started the ball rolling in the first inning, they hammering, the pill all over the lot and succeeded in bringing in two runs. They repeated the trick in the second frame, ; registering two more runs, shutting the Huntington crew out and were leading at the end of the second in-! ning by a score of 4 to 0. The locals failed to score in the third inning and allowed their opponents two runs. Both teams failed to register in the fourth, the locals again failing! in the fifth when their opponents crossed the plate for two more runs, tieing the score at 4-all. The sixth and seventh innings resulted in real
ball playing by both sides, nnd neither team was again allowed to score. By bunching hits the eighth inning resulted in two more runs for the locals and a blank for the Specials. The ninth frame the locals failed to score while the railroaders succeeded In placing two more runs to their credit, tieing the score at 9 all. With the score standing a tie the game' was forced to go overtime, the victory coming the Huntington crew in the eleventh inning when they added one more run to their string, the 1 final score standing 7 to (1. Wayne proved entirely too strong for the local G. E. nine in the clash staged at Bellmont Park Saturday afternoon, the Ft. Wayne team winning in a one-sided game by a score of 11 to 'l. The game took on the appearance 1 of a real for sure battle at the start, I the score being 5 to 1 up until the seventh inning, the visitors scoring five more runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth, allowing the locals their only score in the fifth. The visitors made their appearance jin th.is city with a number of stars in (their lineup and undoubtedly have the strongest team in the League. j Summary: — G. E0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0— 1 5 4 Western G. 0 3 0 0 2 0 5 1 o—ll 9 3 o RIDDLES ALL STARS WIN A TEN INNING BATTLE FROM GENEVA BOOSTERS The largest crowd that has thronged the Geneva base ball park this season watched the Boosters and All Stars (battle it out for ten innings, the latiter winning in the tenth, on two : doubles and a single which scored the i winning run. The Boosters also got (a man on in their half of the tenth but were unable to score him. The game was evenly contested but neither team displayed the base ball they did last year wdien practically the same outfits battled for thirteen ini ings to a tio at three all. Numerous (errors were committed by both clubs | and the All Stars outliit the Boosters two to one, but could not turn their numerous hits into runs. Captain (’ampbell of the Boosters withdrew from the game in the seventh inning ■after committing three errors. Collum led at the bat for the Boosters getj ting three of their seven hits. ' On Hext Sunday the Boosters will meet Winchester on the local diamond and figure on breaking their losing streak. By playing the games in the twilight, it is pointed out, those boys who work during the day will have an opportunity to join in the games after they are through with their work, and in this manner got the much needed recreation.
