Mrs. Mary Auten and daughter, Miss Matie, of Fort Wayne, were guests here over Decoration Day. I A. R._ Morton of Chicago was a [guest of his daughter at the Dugan I home over Decoration day. I Mr. and Mrs. John Rieter of ■ Bluffton motored here yesterday anil [spent several hours with friends. Mr. and Mrs, A. N. Anker and daughter, Miss Veronica, will leave tomorrow on a motor trip to Danville Illinois, where they will visit a week. Save a dollar or two for the fund ! for play grounds. A campaign is to be made this week. If they miss you send your funds in. Mrs. C. C. I Schafer is chairman of the committee of the civic section in charge. Charles W. Meibers has returned from a several days visit at Rome City. He declares the lake is the prettiest ever. The fishing season opens June 16th and Mr. and Mrs. Meibers expect to spend three months there starting that time. Mr. Meibers taking a ninety days vacation from his duties with the traction company.' Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Ellingham of Fort Wayne stopped here for a few hours last evening on their way home from Winchester where they had spent the day with relatives. Call this office when you have local items. Deiniiiger and daughter, Miss Adelaide went to Fort Wayne yesterday morning to join Miss Mayme Deininger, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Kilbourne and Miss Garnet Kilbourne. The party motored to Notre Dame for a visit with Richard Deininger, a student there. Miss Fanny Hite and niece, Miss Virginia Hite, spent Monday afternoon and,evening at Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. George Flanders motored to Peru today to bring their daughter, Miss Gladys, home. The latter has completed her work for the year as a teacher in the Peru schools. John H. Washington, May 31.—(Special to Daily Democrat)—By a vote of 101 to 36 represntatives Woodruff and Johnson South Dakota republicans lost out today in a final attempt to force the house to take action on their resolu--ion for an investigation of alleged laxity in prosecution of war grafters. The vote was taken on a snotion by Republican Leader Mondell for adjournment until tomorrow. Woodruff and Johnson demanded hat the ayes and noes hoping to keep the house in session and compel! a vote on the fraud resolution. The fight for a congressional probe : nto alleged lax dealings with war defrauders has now aparcntly been final ! y beaten down by administration eaders in the house. RECEIVED RACE RETURNS BY RADIO IN THE BURDG HOME The Al Burdg family received the complete returns from the 500 mile auto race at Indianapolis yesterday over the radio outfit installed in the Burdg home a few days ago by Mr. H. \. Lucky of Cleveland, a brother-in-law to Mrs. Burdg. The messages were distinct and the family and their guests enjoyed the afternoon very intich. Every detail about the race was given and other items of interest, meh as the number of accidents, tile number of automobiles stolen from the grounds and in fact everything that was news. MONBOE NEWS All business was suspended in Monroo in honor of Memorial Day. The town was deserted Tuesday, our people attended tho Decoration exercises at Decatur, Tuesday. David Leisure, assistant county road superintendent with a force of men and teams is busy putting on a coat of gravel on Jackson and Washington streets. Raymond Crist, Harman Kirkendall and several other young men of Monroe, who are working In Sturgis, Mich., arrived here Saturday for a few day's visit with their parents. They returned to the above place Tuesday night. The Maloon Bros, one ring circus and dog and pony show arrived in Monroe early Tuesday morning, pitched their tents on the W. Graham 10l just south of the Alpha Products plant where they at once began building up a tented city. The Maloon show is large and better equipped than when they were here two years ago. Mrs. R. B. MeKecman of Fort Wayne was visiting with her mother, Mrs. Justine Hocker, and other relatives here Tuesday.
