Secret Orders Attacked By Dr. Conant Last Night (Continued from pnge one) “Yes”. The evangelist continued, "I never belonged to a lodge, and do not know anything about them, but I would like to put some questions to you lodge members. "Is your lodge founded on the bible? It so, then you have a sacred book. Do you have uu altar in your lodge? Do you have a chaplain? And is socalled prayer offered? Do you have a ritual? Do you believe in a Supreme Being? Is it necessary to believe in the existence of this Supremo Being in order to join your lodge? Does your lodge teach men to love God? If you answer these questions in the affirmative, then, listen to me, YOUR LODGE IS A RELIGION. What business has a lodge to teach anybody to love God? There Is just ono Institution on the face of this earth that God has placed here with the commls sion to teach men to love God, and that is the Church which He has bought with his own blood, if youy lodge is teaching men to love God, then it is trespassing on forbidden territory. There isn't a lodge on the face of this earth that can teach men to love God in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the Spirit was given to but one Institution and that is the church. The Holy Spirit did not create lodges, nor Is he in them. Then for your lodge to try to teach men to love God is to lead them faster to Hell." Dr. Conant than read a printed public statement of a certain lodge member giving some reasons why he beonged to a lodge. One statement had it n a sentence to tlic effect that deeds >t charity would admit one to Heaven That thing is a lie from the pit of Hell, every bit of it,” thundered the evangelist. ' Ho then said that he understood a certain lodge used bread ind wine in somewhat the same sense that they were used in the Lord's Supper. “Men and women, when I teard that tiling, it made my blood ■un cold,” he said. “What business ■as any lodge on the face of the earth with the symbols of the spilled blood ind the broken body of the Lord Jesus hrist?", he demanded. Sacrilege! blasphemy! ho shouted. He continued, "What good does it lo to believe in a Supreme Being? Phe devils believe also and tremble. Most lodges strive after an ideal, and io not surrender to a Person. They Meach that all men are children of lod and brothers. Os all the ugly, levilish and hellish lies, there you lave it! That doctrine of the univer,al Fatherhood of God and the univer;al brotherhood of man is nothing :nder the shining stars but the Devil’s loctrine. God is the father only of hose who are born into His family >y the new birth. True, God is the ■restive Father of all, but not the regenerative Father of all. If you put t on a creative basis, then God is the ather of the mosquito and the monkey ■lso. Anything that has as its basis •he universal Fatherhood of God ami he brotherhood of man is of the levil. “Will you lodge members go to leaven? All who have received Jesus ’hrist by faith as their personal Savor will go to Heaven, whether they iclong to a lodge or not.” lie continued by saying, “A good odgo member is a poor church mem ?er, and a good church member is ilways a poor lodge member. I have ised this theme to show you the dis ference between man’s natural relig ! on and the supernatural isalvation which is in Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ should come to Decatur and apply for membership in your lodge would you take him in?” Ono man responded, "Yes”, while another said. “No”. “Look out!”, said tho evangel ist. “Jesus said. Tn secret have 1 said nothing!’ The very secrecy of your lodge would exclude Jesus Christ. If you took Him in lie would blazon all your secrets abroad, for In secret he has said nothing.” Dr. Conant will preach tonight oil the subject, "The biggest hypo< rite in Decatur," and says that just as sure as he is alive he will expose him. There will be no meetings on Saturday. PLAYGROUNDS FOR CHILDREN IS SLOGAN NOW (Continued from page one) much towards making this a better city and our children happier and healthier.
