INTERESTING SERMON WAS DELIVERED AT LUTHERAN CHURCH WEDNESDAY NIGHT "Christian fundamentals is a topic of general interest to church people in these days. There is an awakening co the tact that men are and have been <oing lost by preaching and teaching which holds forth fables and genealo ogies, is tuned to vibrate with ears tching for new things, and does not earnestly contend for the Faith which was once delivered unto the caints iound doctrine, Christ crucified, is the watch word for the Christian Fundamentals movement in America.”

Introducing hia sermon with the itatement that the Lutheran church aas always taken the Bible as the in.'alible truth and foundation of faith, mil the infalible standard and rule by which all doctrines and teachers must be estimated and judged. The Rev. A. Moeller, of the Fuelling settlement Lutheran church, in a jpecial service held Wednesday evenng in the church on W. Monroe and Eleventh street, spoke on the subject: ‘Why We Need Not Be Ashamed of ‘he Gospel of Christ.” The text was Paul's bold profession of faith as given n the first chapterof his letter to the Romans, considered by theologians, die masterpiece in the wide sweep of the world's literature, “I am not ishamed of the Gospel of Christ; for t is the power of God unto salvation o everyone that believeth.” The ipeaker said that the one thing uppermost in the mind of Paul, actuating ind tilling his life and work, was aith in the person of Jesus Christ, is his Savior. He stated that Christ s the sum and substance of the whole Gospel, and that men ought not be ashamed of the Gospel which proclaims to men the greatest manifestation of God's supreme love to the world in His Son, Christ Jesus, the Lamb was slain for the redemption mil full justification before God of all dnners. It was also said that the Gospel itself is the power of God unto salvation in that the words carry within themselves the power to make men new creatures in God. Closing the sermon with the statement that the bible has triumphed over all at tacks, it was shown that the Bible, indeed, points backward to a Paradise Lost, forward to the swelling Jordan and the valley of the shadow of death, but that the Bible also points the rod and staff to comfort, and the vision of Jerusalem the Golden to sustain and cheer. That the Bible teaches man to look sin squarely in the face, and to look to Jesus the Savior and to trust Him with an unfaltering trust. Compared to all this the sum and substance of every philosophy and human creation which would lighten man's burden and save hom from final despair and destruction must be declared futile and a failure, and it has

declared its own bankruptcy notably in the deathbed confession of the great German philosopher and poet Wolfgang von Goethe: "More light.
