INTERMMDIATMAND SENIOR TOPIC. -Our Response to the Call for Servleo. YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOPDC. —The Service to Which God Calle U». I. Isaiah’s Vialon of Glory (w. 1-4). So definite was this vision that the prophet remembered the very time of its occurrence. It meant so much to him that he could ever look back to it as a day when his ministry took on a new meaning. 1. He Saw the Lord on His Throne (v. 1). Though the death of Uzziab left Judah's throne empty It was made clear to the prophet that the throne of God was occupied. The Lortl was high and lifted up, showing that He is above all kingdoms. This was a peculiar preparation of Isaiah for his work. The one who has really seen God can never be the same again; life has a fuller meaning ever afterward. 2. He Saw the Seraphims Above (w. 2,3). Just who these beings are we do not know. The word signifies “fiery," “burning.” They were glorious beings whose business was to wait upon the Lord, to go on errands for Him. They had six wings—two for flight; two to cover their face, showing reverence; and two to cover their feet, showing humility. These three pairs show that reverence and humility are of equal value before God, with activity. The song of the Seraphims shows that they saw holiness as God’s supreme attribute. The thrice “holy” perhaps refers to the Trinity. The first choir sang, “Holy, holy, holy," and the second choir responded to this by saying, "The whole earth is full of His glory.” 3. The Manifestation of Majesty (v. 4). “The posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.” The smoke, no doubt, signified God’s wrath against man's sinfulness (see Psalms 18:8; 74:1). 11. Isaiah’s Conviction of Sin (v. 6).
The vision of God brought the prophet to see himself. It is only in the light of God’s holiness that we see our unholiness. When Peter got a glimpse of who Christ was lie begged Him to depart from him, saying, “Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O lord” (Luke 5:8). The prophet not only realized that he was a sinner, but that the nation was a nation of 1 sinners. What the world needs today above all things is a vision of God. 111. Isaiah's Cleansing From Sin . (w. 6,7). The taking of the coal from the altar shows that It was connected with sacrifice. The fire that consumed the sacrifice was holy fire. When a sinner gets a vision of God in Christ, the Holy Spirit applies the merits of Christ’s shed blood and deansea from all sin. IV. Isaiah's Call (v. 8). Immediately following his cleansing came the call. Men must be cleansed from sin before they shall be called to God’s service. Though God has many angelic beings who willingly go on errands for Him, yet He has errands upon which only cleansed human, beings can go. The only ones who can really declare the gospel of God’s grace are those who have experienced its saving power. God is asking this same question of men and women. Isaiah readily responded to his call by dedicating himself to the task. He said, "Here am I; send me.” V. Isaiah’s Commission (vv. 9-13). 1. The Sending (vv. 9, 10). He had a most discouraging task before him. He is assured that the people will hear his message, but be unmoved by it. They will even increase in blindness and deafness to the divine warnings—they will neither be converted nor healed. Such a hopeless task would only be undertaken by one who had had a vision of God. 2. The Encouaragement (vv. 11-13). Facing this discouraging outlook the prophet raised the inquiry, “Lord, how long?” The Lord in His reply assured him that it would not last forever. The land would be desolate, the cities without Inhabitants, and the houses without occupants; but as the oak retains its vital substance even long after it has been cut down, so from Judah shall a remnant be saved. The holy seed is the substance which shall constitute the basis of the kingdom which shall come when David's son shall be king. Must Look to Jesus. If I want to repent, if I want to change my mind and get more and niqre determined to be good, I mpst look at JeSus Christ, I must notice how perfectly faultless, perfectly loving, perfectly patient, perfectly ready to spend Himself in the service of others, He is.—The Bishop of London. The Deceitful Tongue. For the rioii men thereof are full of violence, and the Inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful In their mouth.—Micah 6:12.

SPORT NEWS SECTIONAL STATE MEET Indianapolis, April 27. —interest in the High school sectional track ami field meets to be held throughout the state this year centers on the fact that each year the stars set better marks. This interest was aroused by the announcement of May 13, as the latest date the men may qualify. The records set by the Hoosier thin c’rnds compare favorably with the record set by the best athletes in the country. The state championship high school track meet will be held at Richmond, May 20. If the track is fast as Coach Ray Mows of Earlham says it ft, there will be some new time records set. The record of ten seconds in the hundred yard dash set years ago has been equalled twice since that time when Balir of Hammond first made the century mark but no high school boy has lowered it and probably never will. Gray of Technical high, Indianapolis, last year won the finals of the 100 yard in the state meet in 10 4-5 seconds, and took first in the 220 yard in 23 seconds. Velsay of Manuel, high, Indianapo lis, who made the 120 high hurdle in 17 2-5 seconds a year ago should lower that mark also a second this year. Marks of Wabash high school looks like the man that should set a newrecord this season. Marks twice broke the low hurdle record last year in the heats but failed to win this event as he tripped apd fell in the final heat. Philips of Ruilhvfille high school made wonderful time last year in tile mile, covering the distance in 4 minutes, 41 4 5 seconds and ho was not pressed. Several distance men in the slate this year may boat that time. Stanates the little Warsaw runner is still in school and looks good in the 410 yard dash. He did 50 4-5 seconds last year. Yesterday’s hero —Wielding a wicked willow, Grimes woij his second from the Cubs. He tied the score with a homer and drove in two more runs with a single, the Cubs beating the Cards, 6 to 4. After Zachary and Courtney had been knocked out of the box- Erickson held the Athletics to two hits in the last five innings and the Senators w on. 9 to 3. Johnny Evers played his first game in the American League while Collins was laid up and accepted six chances without an error. White Sox holding the Indians to a six Six' draw. A'lney High with a Homer, a double and a single led the Brooklyn attack which mauled three pitchers for sixteen hits and beat the Braves,, 12 to 5. Wingo hit a homer and helped the Reds beat the Pirates., 8 to 5. The Giants hit two Chilly pitchers for 13 hits and 19 bases, and won
easily, 10 to 5. ■ ■ a—■ ■ POSTMASTER BOOSE MAKES STATEMENT TO PUBLIC (Continued from page one) as the boys in the office work on schedule time and are not allowed to work over time only by special permission from the department, so bring in your mall us early as possible, all the Mail for night service should be in the office by 5 o’clock p. m.
