J., April 24— j (Special to Daily Democrat) —The huge meteor which flashed over portions of New Jersey and Pennsylvania last night, finally disappearing with a noise like a heavy explosion, fell into the sea about five miles off the coast. It looked like an immense ball of fire with a tail of many colored flames, giving off sparks as big as f apples.

April 24—New Haven's spurt to a new high on the move at 26 was out standing feature at the opening, of the New York stock exchange. Other Rails were stimulated by New Haven's display of strength and Atchison, Southern Pacific and Chesapeake and Ohio scored gains In the early trading. Pullman, Barnsdall A., and Hupp motors were the leaders among the industrials. These stocks reached new highs for the year before 10:15 Pullman at 129%, Barnsdall A at 55V4 and Hupp at 19%. Midvale opened 2.300 shares at 38. up % and 1,600 at 39, up 1%. A number of specialties were bid up to new highs on the New York stock exchange today. In other stocks however, heavy profit taking had to be absorbed and the cross currents thus set up gave the market an irregular appearance. Asphalt advanced more than two points to 66% on announcement that the compnav had brought in a well in Trinidad flowing 25.000 barrels a day. Manhattan Electric supply around 11 a. m. moved up 2% to 69%, a newhigh for the year. This compares with the 1922 low of 41. International Nickel made a new high for the year at 19%, while Peoples Gas at 87 was within a fraction of the year’s high. Indications of continued improvement in the Retail Business carried Montgomery Ward to a newhigh at 22%. Aqtivity in specialties continued to absorb principal interest throughout the noon hour. Among stocks which bettered the previous 1922 tops w-ere American Radiator at 92; Advancehrumely at 19%; Marline Pfd. at 84%; Marine common at 21% Weber and Meilhroner at 15%; National Acme at 18; International Nickel at blank: Producers and Refiners at 34; Montgomery Ward at 22%; Federal Mining and Smelting pfd. at 42% and New Haven at 26%.
