No Trains, No Work Would Be Allowed on the Sabbath
(United Press Service) Washington. July 14—(Special to Daily Democrat)—A blue haze enveloped the nations capitol today. Noah W. Cooper of Nashville, chairman of the Southern Methodist Sabbath Savings crusade, presented to President Harding today a bill which would virtually close down the nation on Sunday. Later he and members of his delegation conferred with members of congress urging support for the measure. This bill would prohibit on Sunday: All work by employes of the United States All trains that enter interstate commerce All work by post offices The publication of all newspapers that enter the mails Any business that is interstate commerce. The measure is limited to interstate and federal business because the jurisdiction of congress does not extend to state affairs. However, it is the plan to seek state laws in ad-
dition to the federal statute. • “IVe represent the sentiment of 10.000.0 W professional Chrisitans of the south who wish our nation saved from destruction," Cooper said. — • Japan Accepts The Invitation (Continued from page one) disarmament hoping it will reduce tax burdens. The Pope is understood to enthusiastically support Harding's proposal. In Great Britain the principal topic was whether Premier Lloyd George would head this ’country’s delegation to Washington. Newspapers were full o f comment on Viscount Northcllff’s bitter attack on the prime minister. The daily news said the foreign office and the premier’s secretariat were refusing to give any information whatever to the NorthcliiTe press, because of its denunciation of Lord Curzon, the foreign secretary, who has been put forward as a rnp niber of the British delegation. four MEN KILLED IN AN AIRPLANE ACCIDENT (United Press Service) Modesto, Calif..
