• ABOUT TOWN ♦ **************** Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ramsey have returned to their home at Wilmot, Ind., after a few days’ visit with Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Strickler, of Mercer avenue. Mrs. J. H. Stewart and son, Max, went to Warren today and will remain a few days with Mrs. Stewart's mother, Mrs. William Ruggles. Ruth Hammell returned last evening from Detroit where she visited , with her sister, Mrs. ’C. B. Smith. The Rotarians and their wives or! sweethearts will go to I’leasaitf Mills ; this evening where they will enjoy a f chicken dinner at the Baptist church, 1 AH those who are going should meet 1 at the Decatur Industrial association i rooms at 6:15. Automobiles will be furnished and a good time is assured. The Chautauqua dates are July 17th to July 21st. Plan to attend the big program. The county commissioners will meet in regular session next week > and .dispose of a amount of business, including bridge and road improvements. The city council will meet in regular session next Tuesday evening and it is understood that a petition will be presented to the council asking that an ordinance be passed regulating out-of-town peddlers. Frank Price, assistant superintendent ot the Holland plant of the Holland-St. Louis Sugar company, has been transferred to the Decwtur factory and has arrived here to enter upon his new duties. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gordon. 504 North Second street, will conduct a sale of their household goods one week from next Saturday. They are planning to move to Detroit. J. O. Sellemeyer, C. S. Niblick. Candidates for the county superintendency are busy this week, seeking support of the trustees. The annual meeting of the board of education will be held here Monday at which time the election of superintendent will take place. The Knox class in salesmanship met last evening and Mr. Howard | Wisehaupt gave the lesson. The J members are making excellent pro- ! press. The chautauqua in Decatur will I open Sunday, July 17th, with a big , program. Howard J. Wisehaupt who gave his I regular weekly lecture to the pupils of the Knox Salesmanship course last evening has just returned from a fourteen day trip, during which time he covered 4100 miles and gave twen-ty-two talks to salesmanship classes. ‘He was as far north as Saginaw', | Mich., south to Nashville, east to j Cleveland and west to St. Louis. He is making good. Mr. and Mrs. John Kirchner and family of Preble were guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Heilman on Sixth street. Missed Victoria Mills rind Naomi Gilbert will leave Saturday for Bloomington where they will enter the summer school. The girls will stop at DePauw t uroute to Indiana and spend the night with Miss Gilbert, sister of Naomi and a student at DePauw. Mr. C. A. Dugan gave a dinner partylast, night to several ladies, honoring her daughter, Mrs. Pierre Goodrich of Winchester. The guests were Mrs. Beers', Mrs. EUingham, Mrs. Bond and Miss Bond. Sim Fordyce left yesterday for an extended visit at Rome City. L. E. Oplinger of Geneva made a business trip to this city today.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Roth of Union township were in the city yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Hunsickor motored to Fort Wayne on business this morning. Byard Smith of Fort Wayne made a short business trip to Decatur this morning. Mrs. Fred Gay is spending tills week ut the home ot her father, A. Z. Smith, living two miles west of Pleasant Mills. Mrs. Leuore Cramer from oust of town was in the city shopping this morning. Mrs. Lizzie Abel from northwest of town was a shopper in Decatur today. Mrs. E. F. Miller and daughter, Rowena, from east of town, are spending the day at the O. T .Johfason homo, south of the city. Mrs. George Hindenlang of Union township was in the city shopping yesterday. Mrs. Tom Lennalian of Indianapolis arrived last evening for a short visit at the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. V. Connell. Mr. and Mrs. John Meyers of Blue Creek township were shopping in Decatur this morning. Fred Koldewey of Fort Wayne was here on business yesterday. Joe Brennen returned from a short visit at his •'home in Ladoga, Ind., this morning. L. C. Waring has returned from a several days’ visit with his sister in Mississippi. Miss Harriet Wertzberger returned to her work at Crawfordsville after a several days' visit with hteh M. Wertzberger family. Dr. Burt Mangold returned last night from Richmond wlierhe he Visited his brother, Arthur. Mrs. Dave Sovine of Williams was a business caller in Decatur today. Mrs. John Myers and daughter of Monroe were shopping in Decatur today. N. A. Bixler who attended the meeting of the North-Eastern Indiana Opetmetrical association, Fort Wayne, was re-elected president. Jesse Carpenter from near Monroe was a business caller in Decatur today.
Mr. C. J. Nachtrieb ami son, Robert. of Cleveland, Ohio, father and brother of Mrs. Roy Archbold, arrived yesterday for a several visit in this city. Fred Eichoff and daughter. Mrs. Bultemeyer of Friedheim, were shopping in Decatur today. Miss Marsha Helm who graduated from Decatur high school this spring, is planning to enter the Van Wert hospital next Monday for a three-year course in nurse’s training. E. W. France, merchant at Pleasant Mills, was a business visitor in this city today. John Hoblet Jr., of Willshire, Ohio, was a business visitor in Decatur today. Seven or eight car-loads of members of the Methodist church of Pleasant Mills motored to Auburn today, taking picnic dinners along' with them. The trip was made to see the new Methodist church of that city in anticipation of building one similar to it at Pleasant Mills some time in the near future. The U. S. Public Health service estimates that at least 500 and possibly 1000 lepers are at large in the United States, and that that the number is increasing. The government did not start work on its federal home for lepers a minute too soon.

The team is composed of real base ball stars, they having defeated several of tile major league teams in last year's trip, and several members of the outfit, including their pitcher, were offered places in the leagues which they refused. The team is the first of its kind ever appearing in this city and presents an odd appearance, as every player wears long hair and whiskers. The House of David team seldom appears ,in a city of this size, and a stiff contest is assured the local fans. The local teum lias been playing excellent ball this season and expect to do better than ever against this outfit.
