SPORT NEWS Getting Ready for Track Meets. Indianapolis, April 22. — With the warm weather the thin clad track and field athletes of more than 400 high schools are getting busy and track and field meets are being held in various parts of the state of Indiana. County 1 meets. duel meets, triangular meets and invitational games are all schedtiled with but one object in view; and that is to prepare the athletes for i the sectional track and field meets that they may qualify tor the state i meet to be held May 21. There will be about sixteen secI tional or district track meets held j May 14. High school athletes who I win a first or second place in an event | in the district meet will qualify’ to be sent to the state meet May 21. The slate games were scheduled to be held at Lafayette on the Purdue athletic field but Purdue and Ohio state have a duel track meet scheduled for that date and unless that meet is cancelled or the -date of the duel meet between i the two colleges changed the meet ' will be hqld at Frai\klin. t'oqch John j Thurber representing Franklin college, j has extended an invitation to the high ! schools to hold their state meet at the Franklin athletic field. There was a big Boone county meet at Lebanon last week. At Indianapolis Bedford, Shortridge and Manual Training met in a triangular meet. Several other track and field meets have been held by the high schools. This week three strong high school track teams clash. Anderson meets two Indianapolis schools in a triangular fight in Indianapolis Technical and Manual and Anderson should make a track meet in which some records should be broken Friday if weather conditions are right and the track at Willard park is fast. A big county meet is scheduled at Noblesville Friday and these games always attract a big crowd because the high schools of Hamilton county always develop some of the best track and field men in the state. Wabash high school made a great showing in the state meet last year. Wabash appears to have material for a championship team again this year. The Wabash thin clads had a duel meet last week and on April 3 are scheduled to meet the Bluffton high school at Wabash April 29. Wabash track men will race Anderson high school athletes at Anderson. May 7, is the Wabash Valley meet at Logansport. Rochester, Kokomo and Peru are the teams entered in that meet. Besides the district meet and the state meet in May, the Wabash high school team will compete in the national high school meet at Chicago, May 28. On the last Saturday in April thirtyfive high school track teams from central and southern Indiana will gath‘er at Franklin to compete in the Franklin colleg'e invitational track meet.
