LAUNCH CAMPAIGN State Conservation Department Announces a Drive Against Industries TO PROTECT THE FISH And to Make Streams a Source of Food Supply —Bulletin Is Issued. (United Proas Service) Indianapolis, Ind., March 11. — The state department of conservation today launched a campaign against the practice of cities and factories in dumping their waste into streams and lakes of Indiana. “Our streams should 'be and are a source of constant food supply and great health resorts,” said a bulletin issued by the department in connection witli its campaign. “Waste dumped into streams does not only kill fish and other aquatic lite by direct poisoning. It may posess a component which removes the oxygen from the water, rendering it fnhabitual to aquatic life. It may destroy the millions of bugs and worms and floating plants which constitute the food for fish. “The best method pursued is the treatment to remove dangerous elements so that the offal may be sent into a river or lake harmless. The chief problem confronting the commission is the question of economy and bow this method ratty be applied without causing hardship on either the manufacturers or the cities. Tlie department has made previous drives against the pollution of streams and lakes by the manufacturers of strawboard.
