CURRENT OPINION A Bad Crossing. Decntur, Ind., March 9, 1920. Editor Dully Democrat: Realizing your interest In all matters Wist pertain to the welfare of the city of Decatur, the enclosed tnaj be worthy of u little space In yout very valuable paper. Just west of the tracks of the Grand Rapids railroad on Monroe street is a condition that should not be tolerated a minute longer by the taxpayers of the city, iiiml the resi dents of the west part of the citj who have to use Monroe street now want tp enter their bitter protest against the further maintenance of a public nuisance. The sidewalk at this place is cross «1 by a driveway that Is used bj teams and trucks engaged in haulins coal and other commodities from the 'sidetracks of the railroad.' For more than a week now mud. coal dust anc 1 slush has been permitted to accumuI late on this crossing until it has become more than six incres thick and residents living west and wh< use Monroe street to get down town have been compelled to wade through this slough of filth and dirt. Such a condition is a disgrace to the city, and would not be tolerated for a minute in Pleasant Mills or Preble. A lady started to church the other night, and after she had waded through this bog of filth she had to ! stop at the home of a friend and have I her shoes cleaned. Women, children land men have ploughed through mire for more than a week, and still it is here. Maybe the above condition is responsible for some of. the short skirts the girls and ladies are now wearing. Who could blame them? Will you please publish this letter in your paper so that the city of ficials and the street commissioners may know where their services and attention are most urgenty needed': if you do not, we may be forced to endure this situation until it drys up next May and wears or blows away. Very respectfully, WEST-END BUSINESS LADY. MARKETS-STOCKS
