BROWN CAKE Boil together for three minutes two cups of water, two cups brown sugar, molasses, one cup of raisins, dried a;> nles, prunes or figs may be used in stead of rasins, 1 teaspoonful all-spiv-one-half teaspoonful of nutmeg, one half teaspoonful cloves, and one teaspoonful salt. Pour into a bowl ami cool to slightly above tepid. Then rdf in four cups of flour and two tea spoonsful baking powder, and one-halt cup nut meats if desired. Last add one-half teaspoonful liot water. Bake forty minutes. This cake keeps for iwo or three weeks. USE FOR OLD SHOES One shoes, when past using, in; te id of burning them, bury at'root of seme hoice tree or grapevine. They make line fertilizer. SAUSAGE ROLLS Make a rich biscuit dough. Roll thin and (tit with a biscuit cutter. Have the fried sausage hot. roll one link, or one sausage biscuit in each piece dough, pinch together and like, when done serve with brown gravy. Left over meat, veal, beef or pork, can be served the same. Grind the meat, season, adding sage if desired, then roll in the biscuit dough and bake.
