Weismantel, who have been visiting the past week with the E. F. Gass home, returned today to their home at Waukegan, 111. They were accompanied as far as Chicago by (Raymond Gass, who will look after business there. A tine new sign graces the front of the White Stag cigar factory on Second street. The sign was painted by Torr & Roberts, of Indianapolis, and is an exact reproduction of Mr. Thomas' White Stag label. IT S BEING REDUCED (United Press Service) Washington, May 13.—(Special to Daily Democrat) —The nation-wide car shortage Is being reduced daily, Chairman Kendall of the car service commission said today. The shortage canno*be permanently eliminated, railroad officials say, until the roads better their financial condtions to an extent enabling them to order thousands of new cars. May 13—(Special to Daily Democrat)—Poland is fighting the fight of the world against bolshevism but it will continue alone without asking the aid of the allies or the United States Prince Casimir Lubomoriski. Polish minister here declared in an interview today.

Wilson today J sharply warned the republican congress against the passage of measures invading the "‘province of the execu- i tive” branch of the government. The message was transmitted with | Wilson's veto to the executive legislative judicial appropriation bill, which contains a provision giving the congressional joint committee on printing supervision over government publications. LEGION IS CALLED (United Press Service) Washington. May 13. —(Special # to Daily Democrat) —The executive committee of the American Legion has been called to Washington next week in an effort to force through congress a soldier bonus before the congress recesses, it was learned today. Plans are for the committee which is composed of representatives from all states to continue in session until the measure is passed or until the recess is taken which probably will be early in June. If the bill fails, a delegation will be sent to each convention to obtain approval of the bonus in the party platform, it was learned. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, commenced life as a pawnbroker’s apprentice.
