Entered at the postoffice in Decatur Indiana, as second-class matter. The taxpayers want the present state tax and road laws repealed or rewritten so they will function in justice to all .it being clearly demon- : titrated by the vote in the primary election. Tomorrow is Mother's Day. Observe it. Go to that lovely creature to whom all the honor in the world is due, pat her on the back and say a few kind words to her and motherlike that will please her more than anything you could do for her. The McCray machine certainly put the skids under Fesler and when it once got started it did not stop when it hit Marion county. However, they were considerate in one recpect, they leaving Fesler carry his home county by one vote. Where was the “old guard.” Too much Goodrich again. Carleton B. McCulloch polled 5078 votes in Marion county against 652, the next highest vote received by his closest opponent in the race for the gubernatorial nomination. He is extremely popular and the voters all elver the state will be glad to elect him to office this fall. The democrats are and should be proud of the party’s nominees. They have a right to be. No finer or more qualified men or better citizens can be tound in Hoosierdom than those who head the state ticket and it will be a pleasure for the democracy of In li ; an to vote for and elect them to office | this fall. The Indianapolis Star, republican paper, almost concede that the democratic candidates this year are better qualified men than those

P on the republican ticket. In discussing the political situation and the out standing qualities of Thomas Tagi. gart and Carleton B. McCulloch, the Star says: r "The voters, in the absence of issues r of absorbing interest, may be dependr cd upon to pay more than ordinary heed to the qualifications of the individual candidates. The democrats arc 9 not going into the contest handicapped J | by a lot of mediocrites. There will I be weak spots on their list, but they ) I ; also have nominated men who wourtl ) lend strength to any ticket. In a mar * tor-wan comparison the democrats en- ' | ter the race for Indiana and Marion | county voters with prospects brighter | than in any campaign in recent years., "Former Senator Thomas Taggart ' 1 may be counted upon to help to put ; his party ticket in the running in all parts of the state. He will be a tower of strength in a campaign in which i personal following is certain to count; tor much. He has thousands of i friends among republicans as well a$ among the great element known as the “independents” or “silent voters,' to whom party affiliations mean little. Dr. McCulloch's popularity, particular ly in Marion county, and the high 1 grade citizenship represented on the 1 democratic ticket are certain to pull heavily in a contest such as apparently is about to be waged.” NOTICE TO RESIDENTS A number of calls have been received from various citizens relative to chickens running loose and destroying gardens. A city ordinance is in effect relative to this, and all chickens will have to be penned up or prosecution will follow. JOEL REYNOLDS. Chief of Police ONE FROM MISSOURI A Missouri farmer once came to town in an old buckboard wagon pulled by a team of mules. On ar riving in the heart of the “city” he noticed a circus poster on an old building, which read, according to his interpretation: "Minnichs Marvelous Circus, Greatest on Earth, 'cept One.’ (Sepft 1.)
