Entered at the postoffice in Decatur. Indiana, as second-class matter. The “G. E.” plant and the foundry will be operating within a few weeks and will employ six hundred people, ti start with. That this number will be rapidly increased is assured and it means what we have long hoped and worked for. A bigger and better city in which to live. We should all be happy. The women will vote next Novem her and it is important that they be organized in each precinct. Franchise schools should be arranged and plans made for interesting this new : vote. So far but little if any work : along this line has been done in Ad-, ams county and there is much to do. > It’s time to get busy. Officials of the Fort Wayne plant. 1 the Schenechtady office and others mingled with the big crowd Saturday and were boys again. They enjoyed j it every minute and the occasion was I a success. The thanks of the com-1 munity are due those who worked so faithfully at the duties assigned them They did it well. We are proud of course of our sp-> ciaJ edition of last Saturday and weappreciate the hundreds of 'compliments so sincerely given us. it was a real effort for the boys in this office |nd we want the public to know that they worked day and night last week to produce a paper that we feel was a credit to us and a souvenier due the

We are glad to have r been able to do it even during these strenous days in a print shop. Mr. Tenner, a republican candidate s for the nomination for governor, is ' now campaigning in Marion county ) and he is warning his opponents, 1 1 Fesler and McCray that if they perJsist in their organization methods they may land where Senator Newbeery of Michigan did. The campaign promises to get rather warm during the next few weeks and months. Carleton B. McCulloch of Indianap olis, stands for ths things that every good citizen should stand for be he ! laborer, farmer or business man. He is clean and brave and’ a high class man who will serve you faithfully and honestly, who is bound by no private interests and controlled by ni man or set of men. He is deserving of the nomination on May 4th and h will prove an excellent jandidatsand a splendid governor. He should have the majority vote and we be lieve he will have. The railroad strike is serious ant ; freight is being held up to such at i extent that many industries are be i ing forced to close. Newspapers art among those hit for print paper can not be shipped. Many large paper: are being reduced in size and severa have been forced to suspend temper arily. Getting over the war is abou: • as hard a job as conducting it appar ently and especially when a congress in Washington does nothing but pla? politics from week to week. It's ar everlasting shame and disgrace to this country. Mr. Hunting, manager of the Fort Wayne Works, made a happy speech Saturday afternoon. He praised th people of Decatur for their coopera tion. boosted the Decatur Industria association and predicted the growtl of the local branch of tbe “G. E.” Wt believe the plant will make good an

that within a few years It will be a monger hiatlttftloq. The Decatur plant Is declared to be the only one of Its kind In the world, built for speed in the manufacture of small’ motors and the company officials are sure It will prove a great winner. The primaries, both democratic and republican, will be held, three weeks from tomorrow, on Tuesday, May 4th. On that date you will select the candidates for the offices which are so important in the county and state and every citizen should have enough interest in the future of the government to help select these men. Even where there are no con-’ tests you should vote for it is a duty not to be lightly passed over. The next two to four years promise to be the most important in all our history and the very best men should serve us. as officials. It was a success —the General Electric dedication —the crowd was large, the program good, every one in a good humor, and the important occasion will be long remembered by the people of this community. Hundreds who visited the new plant were impressed with the wonderful build'ng achievement. A plant with more than sixty thousand square feet of floor space was built within three months and within two or three weeks the machinery will have been nstalled and the wheels will be tuning. It marks the ne* era in Decatur and we believe this little city will soon be recognized as an industria! ■enter of some importance. Any way the event was a complete sue-i ?ess and everybody is happy though some who carried the responsibility ire feeling somewhat relieved. The big plant will be operating soon.
