AT FLOOD STAGE Wabash River Out of Her Banks and Flood has Already Caused Damage HIGHWAY FLOODED Corn in Low Lands Has Been Lost—Water Receeding Last Evening The old Wabash is on a rampage again and yeserday the water had risen about two feet since the middle of Wednesday nfernoon. The government gauge showed this morning at seven o’clock 12.1 feet. The same mark prevailed at noon and it is hoped the waters will recede and do as little damage as possible. Opened New Slick Road. This morning people living north of Bluffton realized for the first time since the high waters of 1913 that they were entirely cut off from this city. The road at Vera Cruz was under water, the same at the white bridge, the road east from the Bluffton bridge was impassable and the Murray bridge is still down. There was no way to get into or out of Bluffton except over the new brick road. After considering the inconveniences to the traveling public, the contractors, Gordon &. Brinneman. decided that it would be nothing more than right to open at least tcmporarly the mile between Bluffton and the Toll Gate school house for travel. The brick has all been laid for more than ten days nnd there can be no possible injury to it so far as the ordinary travel is concerned. In fact the rood itself is finished and the only thing to be completed is the berm, about half of which is done. Stock from Lowlands. Last evening the water went over the roadway between the bridge and the cemetery and there was a hurrying and scurrying to get the cattle and hogs out the Hartman field at the north of the road. The field today is *■ completely under water. Several Ossian school teachers drove to Bluffton to toke the early car to Indianapolis.
