Chased Gans Out (Continued From Page One) “Several automobile loads of gypsies stopped over in Bluffton this afternoon, a bevy of the women having called upon the business places during their sojourn here, to beg and tell fortunes. There were two families l in the crowd with a grand total of 30 children. “When two of the women accosted Samuel Hedges, seeking to tell his fortune, he gave them 15 cents to get j rid of them, but shortly discovered ( that one of them had picked his poc- | ket of two fifty-eent pieces. This was lon North Main street, where under threats of cabling the sheriff the women returned the money by degrees, first 50 cents and then two 25-cent installments. “Officers got busy and ordered the entire gang out of town. Sheriff Gehrett rounded up the women who got the dollar and escorted them to Mayor [ Hunt's office. One carried a small I babe. Under the circumstances little j is expected but. that the entire hand j will be run out of the city. “This was the procedure adopted. “It developed also that one of the s women tried to steal S2O from Nate Neff, at Porter's pool room She asked to seein Neff’s poeketbook, and he ] opened it and she grabbed the S2O 1 bill. Neff yelled to close the door, and this was done, and the women, trapped, returned the bill.’’ President at San Diego Today (Continued from page one) supporters of the Johnson amendment to the covenant, league supporters in the senate declared today. Its opponents, with equal assurance, regarded the president’s statement on this point at San Francisco yesterday as ammunition for Uhemselves. They intended to use it. they say, to show that an effort is being made to mislead the people. The president’s statement came on the eve of the beginning of the decisive fight in the senate on this amendpient. It was regarded as certain today that Senator Hitchcok will move next week that the amendment be taken up. It was passed over when reading of the treaty began on Tuesday. COURT HOUSE NEWS County Attorney Henry B. Heller went to Indianapolis today # to attend to business with the state tax board.
