When the Farmer Has to Plow THERE comes a time on every farm when work must be done at once if it is to be done at all. It may be plowing, cultivating, harvesting, or nousing of the crops. When conditions are right the work must be started and pushed with all possible speed if the farm is to pay a maximum return that season. Under such conditions the man on the job has no time to go to town, even to get necessary supplies, and no one on the place can be spared for that purpose. Some times it is necessary to send in for food, seed, or machinery, but for his requirements of petroleum products, the farmer knows that he will be supplied by the dark, green tank wagon of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) which calls at his home as regularly, though not as often, as does the man who brings his mail. He has learned that he can depend upon this delivery service, and thattlie Standard Oil man will deliver his kerosene, gasoline and lubricating oil not only to his door, but, if needs be, to the tractor in the field — there are 150,000 tractors in the Middle West. This is the reason for the harmonious, close, friendly relations which always has existed between the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) and the farmers of the Middle West. Also this is another reason why the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) takes pride in its position as a public servant, doing an exacting jobrw'wettrts it knows how, to the distinct advantage > of the rhan who raises the crops,- find'the millions who eat them. I GAUNT SALES CO. Decatur, Indiana. g;"' ENGLAND CELEBRATES WAR’S FIFTH BIRTHDAY (United Press Service) London, Aug. 4. —The fifth anniversary of England’s declaration of war against Germany falling on a regular public holiday, was utilized today for several official and unofficial peace celebrations which had to lie eliminated from the Official Joy-Day. July 19. “Old Father Thames” had the stage largely to himself this morning when a triumphal river procession headed by King George and Queen Mary in the little used State Barge, proceeded from Tower Bridge up the river to Chelsea. Great crowds of holiday makers thronged the banks and bridges, and the river was swarming with small craft of every description, so that the aquatic marshals, in the persons of the Thames police, and th? King's Watermen had considerable difficulty in keeping a clear course Sor the procession of boats. The king, and the royal party, boarded the gorgeous state barge at the Tower, and amid fanfares of trumpets and salutes proceeded to the head of the procession. The King’s Bargemaster. W. G. East, an official whose duties, in ordinary times are to look after the swans and royal
waterfowl, came to his own todaj' and clad in a Tudor costume, resplendent in crimson and gold, acted as admiral over the thirty-two sturdy watermen, also wearing Tudor period uniforms emblazoned with the royal cypher, who propelled the distinguished party. An escort of the picturesque Yeoman of the guard, looking as though they had just stepped from a pictorial history book and armed with huge halberts, also assisted. The royal party disembarked at Chelsea hospital, but for the remainder of the day the river was thronged with boats and picnic parties.
