Entered at the postoffice In Decatur, Indiana, as second-class matter. The meeitng of the democratic editors at the Country Club Ft. Wayne last evening was an oratorical feast with splendid addresses by Mrs. McCullough, woman chairman, Fred Van Nuys state chairman, Ex-gov-ernor Ralston, E. G. Hoffman, Dale Critenberger and others and then Claude Bowers brought them all to their feet with one of his rapid-lire, gattling gun twenty-minute speeches on “the league of nations.” It was a great evening and the editors who stood the heat were more than repaid. i It’s almost hot enough that you know it’js the Fourth of July without any fire-crackers. Well it's a good old day just the same and as compared with last year we all feel more like celebrating. A year ago today, with Paris threatened and our boys just marchin’ towards Cliattcau Thierry to turn the tide, the outlook was certainly not promising. Read the Declaration of Independence over today. It will make you understand the new treaty better. Os course we are going to back up the efforts to secure a sanitorium for the treatment of tuberculosis and if the other counties don’t do so that’s not exactly our affair. We will have the knowledge of having done our part. Claude Bowers said in his speech last night to the editors “We would not make the League of Nations a party question if we could, we could not if we would, but if the few petty politicians wish to make it a party 'giove grip] Shoes It' ■ i | 2jl I 1 i j 5 ir’lA Os f Rfih I ’ £ Holds the arch gently and firmly in place, permitting I I the muscles to perform their 1 natural functions., ,1 ► Made on an entirely’’new 1 principal over smart, stylish I lasts. GIVE TREES COLD FEET NOW. , July is the month to watch your trees and see that they have a bath now and then. The sun is hot and the winds evaporate much water, says the American Forestry Association of Washington, D. C. This newspaper has arranged with the association to supply any reader with detailed information on tree planting free of charge. Keep the soil about your tree well loosened at the surface. Loosen it up once a week. If needed, trim your tree. Indeed this may be done at any time of the year. Everywhere city planning figures in proper setting of trees. Memorial trees are being planted everywhere and registered with the American Forestry Association. Know something about trees and help make our city a better place to live in.
