’THEY RUN TO DUSK ; Summer Girls’ Linings Not i Silver, Like Clouds, But on the Dusky Shade ;BLACK TAFFETA SLIPS ; Are the Latest for Diaphan- ; ous Lingerie Frocks—- ; Maggie Rohe Speaks. I (Written for the United Press) ( Sweet Nettie in a gown of net ■ And hose in mesh more netlike yet , Was really such a vision fair ’ She soon enmeshed a millionaire ■ She had him netted from the start He offered her his hand and heart. I New York. N. Y., June 26 —Unlike clouds, the summer girls are not to have silver linings this season. They run rather to dusky black ones. At least for their diaphanous lingerie frocks with their cobweb lace and sheer .embroidery and gossamer materials, slips of black taffeta are the very smartest foundations to show off their fairy-like charms. It is really smart to keep it dark when it comes to anything like a slittie slip now and then and though slips of black taffeta may occasionally encounter btack looks, they will never be in the modern woman’s black books, as long as they are in the fashion books. Lingerie frocks have been worked out to more exquisite perfection than ever this summer and in the fineness of their materials and the artistry of their handwork and design they are really dreams. Not all of them, of course, are to be worn over the startling new black taffeta slips. A touch of color, be it ever so slight, | is noted on them, however, one and * all. Some have a quaint and vivid ribbon flower at the girdle or caught at some puffed up portion of the beuffant skirt, while rainbow girdles of three or four shades of pale tinted : ribbons is a favorite finish. There is no such thing as the simple ■ life for a skirt any more on these lin-j gerie models—or on any of the sheer . organdies and thin summer frocks, for that matter. Indeed they are all leading double or even triple lives, with two or three tiere or one long tunic effect over a tight underskirt, off else a much puffed up and fluffed up overskirt over a tight ankle, length under one. These tight un- j derskirt portions are very elaboratedly fussed up with tiny laced ruffles, tucks and insertings and their hems ( strive for just one startling effect after another. One of the most novel hems is on a dove gray organdie, and the bottom of the skirt is loosely rolled up in a crushed mass and caught every now’ and then with a - wine-colored rose. This same model has flowing bell sleeves and a crush- 1 ■X ( ed surplice collar caught at the gir--5 die with three of the same anti-pro- - hibition flowers. I Some of the underskirts are so > t draped in the middle, as to stimulate ( pantalettes and beneath an overskirt J ( of flowered organdie, they are espec- ‘ > ially quaint and effective. ( The lovely huge floppy hats of leg- ( horn, milan and crln, loaded with 1 novelties in the artificial flower line, . like other lilies, orchids, morning ; glories, nasturtiums, dahlias, hydran- ' geas and even snow balls, and al- > ways the more commonplace but esJ fective field combination of corn 1 flowers, daisies, buttercups and pop . pies, are fit crowning glories to the I lovely lingerie frocks and organdie ' dresses of the summer girl. The all- > organdie hats to match the organdie I dresses are making a great bid for ; summer girl favor, but as yet they > have not gone to her head like the ( charming straw ones. Distracting litJ tie white lace edged frills, peeping > out around the head below the hat I brim like the lacy frills below the i overskirt hems, smack of Dolly Var- ( 1 den days. Even with such charming headgear. _ a wise maid has to keep her mind * on her feet these days, for the start- ( > ling new hem finishes to the sashI ionable frocks do attract the eyes of ' all beholders feet-wards so. Hence i much care and attention must be ! paid to just the right dainty pump ' of satin or suede, glistening with its • huge cut steel buckle, and the ex- ( quisite silken hose that now covers ' vie with the lingerie frock for deli--1 cate lace work and diaphaneousness. I Indeed, after the sun’s rays have had ; a few torrid July days chance at > such open-work ankles, I rather imJ agine the summer girl will have to ' adopt white silk underslip hose to : show off the lacy design of her ’ stockings, even as’ she wears the J black taffeta slips to show off the lacy ' designs of her lingerie frocks. | , — ( $ $ $ S—WANT ADS EARN—S $ $ $

Once-a- Week Polish » Keeps Teeth Stainless | to ■ ■ ! ■!»■■■■ - — .I.—l shy do bo many use pumice stone, ashes, charcoal, or o'her dangerous substance, to remove the unsightly yellowish or blackish tinge from the teeth? Simply because they have never been able to find any tooth powder, paste or liquid that would do the work.
