SUGGESTS A Y. M. C. A. To the Editor of the Democrat And All Patriots of Adams County: 1 read Mr. Colter’s proposal of a veek ago with interest and ilm when he says that we should do 1 i.mt thing to express our appreciation f the services our soldier boys have 1 lone. What would they like best? they surely deserve anything and verything that we could comniemur-:-.te to them. It is to the toldier boys of Adams I ounty that we want to remember — hose brave lads who have gone forth ■ o tight for us and for the sake of «•: We all know how d tr they are to us. Now what would be ■ st' 1 What wiigld they like? 1 want to suggest that we build a V. M. C. A. for our valiant boys. Let’s show our appreciation. Nothing ■ ould please them more and touch hem more. They could use it —surety a Y. M. C. A. filled with live youths would live longer and be longer re- | membered and appreciated than anything else. In later years they can look up at this building and proudly ay, “That was built for our boys." More than sixty per cent of the boys that have gone from Adams county have gone across. Inevitably every boy speaks of the Y. M. C. \. n his letters home, of its interest in him —its helpfulness—its homeness — t is the only hen.e to the lad in the rench. They have always said they couldn't realize what all the Y. M C. A. has done for them and now—if they are to come home and find a Y. \I C. A in construction —all for them and for their brave deeds —how- gloriously they will feel. Our boys that have been at the lifferent cantonments have not been tide to speak highly enough of the Y. M. C. A. When they were feeling blue and out of sorts or wanted a good old hnme-like time the only place for good fellowship was the Y. M. C. A. Surely they would say, “What ? A Y. M. C. A. in our own Adams county —and for us!” I believe, that one of the unessent-j ial things that this war has done I away with is anything useless, though: for a good purpose—especially when ( (■mething worthwhile could be substituted. Surely we don’t want a 1 lying statue.” a tablet. Can’t you just see how this Y. M.‘ C. A. would just live and live, showing our appreciation, our love, our respect, our hearts? For years to come people will pass by and looking up. it this personification of our respect! -ay. Just think this wonderful build- ( ; ng was built for the services our boysj in khaki and bine did in the World's War.” | No doubt all of this money could i tot be appropriated by taxation but I with what would be contributed hyi he different individuals of the coun-j I y the sum could be raised. Haven’t we gone “over the top” in all of the different war drives? We surely could' do this. Come on Adams county let's have! it under way when they come ip arching home! WHAT WOULD OUR BOYS APPRECIATE MORE? SIM BURK. ELECTION NOTICED Decatur, Ind., Dec. 24. 1918.
