DR. J. WILBUB CHAPMAN DEAD New York. Dec. 25—Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman, noted evangelist an I since May. 1317. moderator of tit*’ general assembly of the Prcsbyter'a.i church in the United btates, di* *1 here today following an operatio*i. ' Dr. Chapman’s operation, performed : on Monday, was his third within two yesrs for gall stones. He show, ' ! slight improvement on Monday *>’>< yesterday there was a turn ’or the worse. Dr. Chapman was born in Richmond. Ind., on June 17, 1859 and = was educated at l-ake Forest univer- ’, sitv and at the Lane Theological sem--3 inary. He was ordained into the ' Presbyterian ministry in 1892. He p occupied pastorates at Albany. Philadelphia and New York and conducted evangelistic work in all parts of the - country. Sinco 1903 he had been ex--1 ecutive secretary of the general as--1 sembly’s committee on evangelistic ' work for the Presbyterian church and ! representative-at-large .for the Pres- ’ byterian evangelistic committee. Dr. ■ Chapman is survived by his widow 1 and a daughter. Mrs. Fred E. IJnd?r, of this city. Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Fourth Presbyterian church here, where Dr. ( hapnuul occupied the pulpit from 1900 to 1905. Tho body will be buried at Woodlawn, N. Y. ITBI IC SALE.
