now well, just save a corner "'er little Cleely’s old army blanket.-” and I'll be there in a year at least. As the old Dutchman says "The spirit is willing but the meat is weak!” Prench people sure are the limit for kindness when you ones get in their hearts. D'ye s.ie tills paper? Well it’s only one of th- presents that ( “tante Joujcu" (Aunt Joujou) is piling on your humble servant. Some of the other things are a gold signet ring, a s'lver identification bracelet, a “porte bonheur" (little thing for good luck), a wrist watch, gloves, etc, etc. Lord. I hate to take it all. hut y m just simply can’t protest. I get about as far as "But auntiehens. I can t have you— !” when zip I get a box on the ears and "Ne bavardez pas av. c votre tante (Don't try to argue with your aunt) mediant" (bad boy ) “Je vous ainie (I like you) et ea e'e-t asseg de raisons (and that is reason enuf)” And the dear little white haired woman means it and is as pleased as a child to "gatez" (spoil) me. as she says. You see the poor little lady has lost her husband in the war and her life has become so lonely I just humor Iter in her desire to have me for her “neve'i" (nephew.) And gay—she can hide the saddest heart under the gayest exterior and really old <Te enjoys if and loves her sincerely. Now miethyr know you’ll understand just how to take thjs this is no sentimental "old maid ease" but merely pure unselfishness on tantes’ part. 1 found out that I was mistaken about sending hocks home- the order meant, books from one place to another over here. Yes. I received cne of these facto send home for a Christmas package. but I gave it away. Not because ! wouldn't appreciate presents fro > home, but because for one Christmas at least I just want ’.he spirit of Christmas and not the presents. So send me a little <ard or something and some good long letters and I'll bo o. k. Ha! I have thee at my mercy now villains ,qnd you must do as I sa/. because Uncle Sam says We moved to some uew barracks the other day. There are four of nin a room and all my “comrades" are good fellows. We have boxing gloves a mandolin, magazines, electric light, good mattresses and pillows, water hot and cold and a bath. Not bad. ah. I have converted two of my roommates to physical curture and we regretfully rise fr< m ye humble couch at six and take a morning hike. Besides wo exercise at night. I told Gregg about the pe-’ch of a swelled nose I got from boxing. Well the next night for revenge I knocked a guy on his "rear view" right, cm top of his cot and now the cot sags fierce in tne middle. He swears his chin touch ’s bis toes when he lies on his hack. Ah. we have good times, we fighting Quartermasters!!! I have the iiiiest book from the library now. It's called 'in God’s Great. Out-cf-Doors." Why I never dreamed of what beauty,l was missing in common every day things till 1 read that. It's a shame Gregg can't read it i'.n sure he'd enjoy it so. Do you know one of the biggest pleasures I'm looking forward to? Well, it’s merely t.i go cut to the woods with those (ramps (Gregg and Hurry) and cook beans and watch the trees, and lot the big world go to thunder or whalever else it wants to do. Shoot, tiie greatest pleasures are the simpl’-t I and the biggest thing in the world is | the Golden Rule.. (If a fellow would I only remember that!)
