The kidneys act as a kind of filter for these products. When the kidneys are changed or degenerated, by disease or old age, then these poisons arc retained in the body. If we wish to prevent old age coining too soon, or if we want to increr.se our chances for a long life, Dr. Pier® of the Invalids’ Hotel, Buffalo. N. Y., says that you should drink plenty of water daily between meals and with your meals to flush the kidneys. Then procure at your nearest drug store Anuric. This Anuric drives the uric acid out. If we wish to keep our kidneys in the best condition a diet of milk and vegetables. with only little meat once a day, is the most suitable. Drink plenty of pure water, take Anuric three times a day for a mouth. Anuric is many times more potent than lithia and dissolves uric acid as hot water does sugar. OLD-TIME TONIC FOR WOMEN. IF YOU CAN KNIT Get Some Yarn at the Red Cross and Help the Soldiers. IF YOU CAN’T KNIT The Women Will Show You How—Call for Knitted Goods. And still the call for more knitted garments for soldiers comes. lie- 1 spending to the call from headquarters, Mrs. W. E. Smith, in charge of the local knitting department, gather-' ed up all knitted things on hand and sent them out. the box going vest ;r---day. With this call, came a plea to "speed up the knitters.” The cold weather is creating greater need for the garments to keep our soldier b< ys warm. There were sent out yesterday front here, fifteen sweaters, twenty pairs of socks, ten scarfs, nine pairs of wristlets. There are still many women in the city and country who are expert knitters. To these is directed a plea to come to the Red Cross department and get yarn, keeping a supply constantly on hand, that the work may be picked up at odd minutes and knitted into wristlets, socks, helmets, mufflers, sweaters and other things tor the soldiers who would not otherwise have these warm garments. There are many, too, who do not know how to knit, who will be instruct ed by Mrs W, F Smith, or assistants. An appointment may be made with Mrs. Smith who will give the instruction at any time, although she prefers doing so in the afternoons. The instruction will not be limited to Thursday afternoon classes only. By appointment. it will be given nt any time although holidays are preferred to be excepted. A traveling lady, who happened to be here and who desired to learn to knit, was instructed yesterday by Mrs. Smith, by special appointment. Those who knit for the R»d Cross should remember the following points, inquiries about which are many: Remember 1. That any one, whether members of tho Red Cross or not. may knit. 2. That there is no charge or money deposit for the yarn taken out from headquarters to be knitted into garments for soldiers. The only thing necessary is to sign a receipt for the yarn taken out. until it is returned in the form of knitted garments, or otherwise. 3. That there is no specified time in which the garments must be made, although it is preferred that they he made as scon as possible. 4. That if you don’t konw how to knit, you will be instructed if you so desire, at any time, if appointment is made with Mrs. W. E. Smith.

Nov. 28 Reports of shortages of salt and matches are as silly and unfounded as the statement that there will be no more “Prussian blue” such as is used for bleaching i clothes in laundries, for the reason that this all comes from Prussia. “Prussian blue” is no more a German product than is salt, and the federal food administration has notified tie Indiana State Council of Defense that all such reports are false and misleading. intended to embarras the retailers and should be denied and their dissemination discouraged. “Prussian blue” is produced in the United ! States and although not to be compared with salt in ylcnttpusmas, is in no] :-enBO dependent upon a declaration of peace with Germany. HAVE YOU° TRIED THE DEMOCRAT’S CLASSIFIED SECTION?
PERSISTENT ADVERTISING PAYS If there is one enterprise on earth that a quitter should leave entirely alone, it is advertising. To make a success of advertising one must be prepared to stick like a barnacle on a boat s bottom. He should know before he begins it that he must spend moneylots of it. Somebody-must tell him that he cannot hope to reap results commensurate with his expenditure early m the game. Advertising doesn’t jerk; it pulls. It begins u*rj gen v at first, but the pull is steady. It increases day by day and year by year until it exerts an irresistible power.—John VVanamakerIf you could go with your newspaper ad into the hundreds of homes each day and see it do its work you would no longer doubt the value of such publicity. The timid advertiser thinks only of the space he buys, while in fact, this is not what he pays for at all. Buying newspaper space means buying an audience. Space is only the medium through which he conveys an impression of his goods and his store to possible customers. Nothing more thoroughly identifies a store with a substantial interests of a town than persistent newspaper advertising. It is a sign that the store invites inspection.
