The following letter is from W. P. Hawkins, at Fort Bliss. Texas, to bis parents and his sister. Miss Imogene Hawkins, at Pleasant Mills: U. S. Army Field Hospital. No. 1 Ft. Bliss. Texas. Oct. 30. Dear Ixwed Ones at Home:I received your letter a few days ago. Glad to hear from you and that you are all well. I am tine, never felt better in my life. 1 suppose it is real cold back in old Hoosier land. Well, it Is warm herd and will be till about December. I suppose you are eating a lot of apples and pop corn. Only wish I could ‘>e there to enjoy it with you. Are you making lots of butter? Wish I could have all of the milk and cream vegetable and potato soup. Ha. Well, pop, I impose you have your corn about all shocked. Hope so for 1 look for a bad winter. The old people down here say it will be awful cold although it is still warm. Do not be worried when I do not write for I am all right.
Mother, I think and Ruth are getting to be quite good friends. She sure did give me a lecture Friday evening and then Sunday evening her mother gave me one. 1 had a letter from Walter today saying they were all well. He sent me a picture <f himself and his wife. Yes mother, 1 would like to-have some apples. Sergeant Surest said he wanted one if they were from Indiana, His home is at Shelbyville. We have three sergeants from Hoosierland. I am sending some pictures. 1 have not enough stamps or I would send you one of my big pictures but it is too far from pay day to have much now. I will not have so much this year for I bought S2OO worth of Liberty bonds at S2O per month for ten mouths. That will only leave me sl3 a month.
