WAR GARDENS HELPED (United Press Service) Indianapolis, July 27 In response to inquiries from Secretary Houst >n of the Department of Agriculture, relative to the condition of garden and orchard crops through the state. G. I. Christie state food director, lias informed the federal authorities that there will be a large surplus of vegetables and fruit in the state of Indiana A campaign for canning, drying and other methods of preserving the products is well organized, but not adequate to meet the situation. Christie said. | Many cities recently organized fiTj the planting of "war gardens" have made no provision whatever for the saving of the products, he pointed out. It is also proved, according to Christie that many farm women are accustomed to saving fruit but heretofore have done nothing in the way of saving vegetables. The committee recently appointed by Secretary Houston for the marketing and distribution of perishable fruits and vegetables is now in session at the national capitol. It is the hope of the local state committee that som ehelp may be received from those in conference at Washington. o COME, EVERYBODY! To the ice cream social and parcel post, sale to be given by the Epworth League of Bobo on the church lawn next Saturday evening. July 28. Bring your friends, also your pocketbook. A welcome to all.
