It will lake a heart of stone to refuse to aid in tiiis great cause. America will make an effort to give her soldier boys the very liest attention possible during war times. The assessment is a dollar a piece for every man, woman ami child in the i'nited Stales. Will yo.i stand your assessment? Enthusiasm is a great thing, patriotism always helps, its tine to salute the red white and blue, to stand u.> and cheer when the orchestra plays the national hymn, to wear a button or a flag on your codk but the realway to show that you stand for your government just now is to buy a Liberty Bond -and say buy it before Friday • of this week for the big campaign will, close that day and you will probably not have another Opportunity. Immediately then your bond begins to in crease in value. Buy it now. Well the 1,384 gardens in Decatur ought to be growing today and th y are. An hours walk over the city will convince you that the people of Degoing to live easy so far is garden vegetables are concerned, this summer and a little care and thriit will make it possible ttweoiyinu\* with a well filled larder for next winter. There is still time to plant your la:»potatoes, cabbage, onions, turnips and other vegetables which can be tucked away for next winter and will help so much. Right now is the time to |>l m if you are going to help yourself and , everyone else next winter. : Berne led the contributors in the Y. M. C. A. fund, did their share in >he Red Cross and are taking part vigorously in the Liberty Loan. If any <ifl doubted their loyalty aftgr knov. iW these fai ts they should hate ■been there Sunday afternoon when five thousand people let out a yell for patriotism as Old Glory swung to the breeze. There had been some little opposition to the event as planned but 1t was carried out nevertheless ami there can be no doubt that it was i complete success. Adams county people stand tor the flag and what it represents and will defend it always , and under all circumstances. Anv opposition to a program planned for - the raising of an American flag is II timed and always rebuked in this splendid, loyal county.
