A. Nichols has returned from Detroit. Mich., where she has been visiting with her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Sphar who recently moved there. Ed Miller, who has been on the sick list for the past week, will return to Fort Wayne this evening to resume his position at the Corrugated Paper’company's phi*. Harold Steele returned home from Craigville yesterday afternoon after spending a few days visiting with relatives and attending his grandfather's funeral, held there yesterday morning. The heavy rains of the past, few days have caused the wafer to rise in ■ many of the small creeks throughout the country. The weather was bad last night but . the Red Cross concert at the Masonic hall was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed. Joe Johns. Felix Mayer and Ralph Miller motored to Fort Wayne to attend the boxing matches held at the Majestic theater last evening. Delphos is holding a special election to determine whether or not they should have a commission or' city management plan of government. Van Wert is going to observe June ■ fifth—registration day—as a legal holiday, and they are going to have a . flag raising with plenty of music and ' speeches. . John Wessell, Jr., for three years past secretary and treasury of the* "Fort Wayne water department has been found short in his accounts SB.000 by the field accountants. Wessell resigned a few days ago and enlisted in the arnip but was Utter returned from Columbus and has now gone to Fort Harrison where he is trying to get in the officers corps. Wessell was well known here and over the state. He served two terms as reading clerk in the legislature and was popular and efficient in his duties. His short-’ age has been made good by relative) - . 1 Weldon H. Wells, Kansas City broker's clerk, who last January, l murdered Mona Simon, a girl of the streets, in a leading hotel in Colum-I bus. Ohio, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ohio penitentiary.' Wells’ mother, whose home formerly was at Huntington. Ind., was in' the court room when sentence was pronounced. The young man was convicted of second degree murder. Weldon H. Wells is the son of Mrs. C. E. Benfcr of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Huntington, Ind. Wells, was captured there soon after »the murder had been committed in the Columbus hotel. He formerly lived at Huntington and worked at various times in a Huntington restaurant, but for several years had been employed as a clerk in a Kansas City commission house.
