J. J. Hilty of Berne transacted business here today. Frank Kuebler of Tiffin. Ohio, is visiting in the city with his uncle. William Kuebler. Mrs. Earl Hoagland, who under-., went an operation on her foot a weak ago. is getting better. Leo Miller and family of Huntington were guests Sunday of his mother, Mrs. Verena Miller. Miss Helen Stahl and Edith Peters returned this morning*to Ft. Wayne, They were guests of Misses Celia and Cecil Andrews. .Miss Ethel Fuhrman is a new member of the increased stenographic office force of the Graham & Walters office, beginning this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Burdg ami son, Floyd, of Fort Wayne, who visit, d here, went to Berne to spend Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Mark Burdg. Mrs. E. A. Schaefer and children of Fort Wayne stopped here Saturday for a short visit while enroute to Berne mid Chattanooga, 0., to visit with relatives. A <lass of thirty boys and girls made their solemn communion at the St. Mary's Catholic church yesterday. Tin- services were held at the high mass at nine o’clock. Funeral services for William Darwcehter were held Saturday from the Christian church by the Rev. W. P. Marsh. The Red Men. Yeomen and Modern Woodmen attended in a body. Charlie Vogiewede, sons, Robert and Arthur, are back home again after a three weeks’ "lock-out” on account of the home being quarantined. Mary Margaret, who had the scarlet fever, is getting along fine and recovering rapidly.
TO APPEAL CASE. Attorneys representing the L. E & W. railroad appealed to a higher court the damage suit of Henry San ders of Monroe, in which a jury awarded judgment of $550 late Wed nesday afternoon against the railroad company for the destruction of Sanders’ automobile at a crossing accident at WlndeorHtreet in Moptpelier last fall, according to a statement made by John M. Smith, one of the defendant attorneys in the case. This case together with another brought by Sanders as administra tor of his wife’s estate, who was killed in the accident, wore venued here front Blackford county. In the latter suit judgment for |IO,OOO damages is asked. It will probably not be tried here now.—Portland Commer-cial-Review. OLD PEOPLE GUESTS. WILLSHIRE, 0., May 14. — (Special to Daily Democrat.)—lt was a notable assembly of old people who were spec tally honored guests of the congregation of the Church of God last evening when special Mothers’ Day services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. R. A. Walling. O_ SCHOOL EXHIBITS. The patrons and friends of Decatur Public Schools are cordially invited to view the annual exhibit given bv Decatur schools, next Wednesday aft ernoon from 1 to 4 o’clock. We hone the patrons will take time to visit the different rooms. The North Ward exhibit will be held at the North Wa r d school building, the West Ward exhibit at the West Ward school building, etc. FOUR MORE VOLUNTEERS. ' Four men enlisted with Company A yesterday - following the public flag raising. They were Medford Wynn. Arthur A. Grim. Willard D. Andrews and Chauncey Brokaw. This makes eight now ready for the examiner and when two more are secured he will be summoned again. The total is now over eighty and there is room tor seventy more. CONTEST OF FLOWERS. The grades of the South Ward have been earnestly putting in their spare tipie in preparing a play, entitled "Contest of Flowers." The play will be given at the old Weber hall, tonig.it beginning promptly at 7:30 p. m. The admission is 10 cents, the proceeds to be used in their Victrola Fund. This contest will be well worth seeing ami you cannot afford to miss it. FOR INSTRUCTION. Misses Marie Connell and Helen Niblick, chairmen of the instruction department of the local Red < ross auxiliary, were called to Fort Mayne today by the official body to meet Miss Mary Johnson, the instrue.mwho has returned to that city for further instruction and examination. Prompt work of tlfr fire department this morning at 7:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller corner of Seventh* street and Nuttman avenue, confined the damage done on the house by fire originating from a spark from the chimney, to about ten dollars. ■ MISS TRICKER VERY LOW. Funeral services for Lawrence, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Draper were conducted this afternoon from rhe home east of the city by the Rev. Harman of the United Brethren church.
