Mrs. W. H. Graham returned this afternoon to Monroe. Mrs. C. H. Hayslip of Fort Wayne visited here with friends today. Senator Barrett and stenographer, of Fort Wayne, were here on legal business this morning. Miss Helen Thomas who is attending school here, left on the 1:05 train lor her home at Monroe. Mrs. Earl Hoagland is recovering from an operation performed Tuesday on one of her feet. Mrs. Peter Stauffer left this afternoon for her home near Berne ofter a visit here with her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Cook. Miss Alta Johnson returned on the 1:05 train this afternoon to her home ot Monroe after a visit here with triends. Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Burk. Rev. Pau! Marsh. John Schultz and Mrs. C. R. Weaver motored to Fort Wayne this afternoon. Mrs. E. B. Close and nephew. Hugh Renolds, of Portland, returned home this afternoon after a visit with St ilia Reynolds. Mr. and Mrs. Izm Boyer, of near Magley, were business visitors in the city today. They moved to the August Schlickman farm from Clinton, about two months ago. A book agent named Plake of Decatur, mot with a painful accident Tuesday morning. After concluding canvassing the town, and he was ready to leave he proceeded to crank up his "tin lizzie,” when the pesky thing kicked him on the lower lip with such force as to inflict an ugly deep gash. He rushed to Dr. Rayl’s office which was nearby, where it was found that it required several stitches to close the wound. —Monroe. Reporter.
Floyd Baker, of Monmouth, who has beeu confined to his bed since Monday on account of a severe cold on his lungs, is better this afternoon. Bremerkamp received word today thot their son, Octo who enlisted at Lafayette, lias gone into training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, this being their first knowledge of his enlistment. A son Eugene, enlisted at Fort Wayne and is at Fort Thomas, Ky., while a third son. Earl, is talking also of going. Mrs. William Barrone and nephew went to Fort Wayne this afternoon to call on her sister, Mrs. Bertha Rice, who is with her three and a half year old daughter. Beatrice Rice, at the Lutheran hospital. The child is very low of nephritis or Bright's disease, being at the stage where she is blind. She has been at the hospital two weeks. Mr. Clem, of Findlay, Ohio, is here to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law. William Darwechter. His wife. Mrs. Hattie Clem, a sister of Mr. Darwechter. was unable to come, being bedfast. Mrs. Clem has been practically an invalid sipce a nitroglycerine truck explosion about two years ago which wrecked their home, with that of others. Monroe, Adams county, probably holds the record for the largest Red Cross membership in the state, according to population. While no organization has’been perfected, a report received at local headquarters Thursday was to the effect that 11<> have already joined and that before the week is over this will be increased to 200.
