In fullness ot years, Judge Daniel D. Heller, of Decatur, has closed a life well-spent, useful and meriting the multiplied honors that it brought to him from the freely given hands of hit fellow citizens. The passing of thia veteran lawyer, after more than half a century devoted to that profession. deprives the bar of his county and of the state of one of its ablest and most honorable members. For twelve years he was an incumbent of the circuit bench and in that high and exacting place acquitted himself as a good citizen, a conscientious public servant and a just judge should, retiring with such a record as in its making won the approbation and the confidence of the community he served. Judge Heller had been a citizen of Decatur for fifty years, choosing that city for his home shortly after he had been admitted to the bar in his native state of Ohio and that ever since had been his home. His first public office was as superintendent of schools of Adams county. In 1885 he was elected mayor of Decatur and three years later was called to the bench. In all his public capacities he made earnest and upright service his ideal and practice. Few men in his community hav ever enjoyed so wide an acquaintance or commanded public esteem so general and sincere. His death, even at his time of life, for he was nearing four-score, is a loss to the profession he honored and to the community he served.—Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette. | DOINGS IN SOCIETY j WEEK’S SOCIAL CALENDAR. o Women Spoil Watches. It is • notorious fact that watches owned by women are less accurate than those carried by men. The cause for this can bo directly assigned to the Irregularity with which women wind their watches and the frequency with which they allow them to ruu down.
