OBITUARY. William H. Laisdie was born in Fairfield county. Ohio. June 4, 1S19; departed this life March 16, 1916, at the aged of 96 years, 9 months and 12 days'. He was united in marriage to Eveline Todd, when in his young , manhood. To this union were bom t six —three sons and three ' daughters. In his early married life he, with his family, came to Indiana, where he. remained until his lite was closed in death. His wife died near or shortly after the year 1865; then in 1569 he was again united in marriage to Mary Smith. To this union was born one son. he dying in infancy. His second wife died May 13, 1910. For a number of years he was a member of the United Brethren church, and for some years he was a member of the Lutheran church. He was a man who was known as a hard working man, and one who helped to clear away the virgin forest, and bring forth the fertile fields with which the generation of today are so richly blessed. Thus though in a i different way from that of which the Master spoke in John 4:38, nevertheless it is true in the case of the departed. He has labored and other men have entered into his labor. He ' felled the trees, builded him a place lof habitation, yet he has gone and left it, while others have now taken possession. He has seen) many changes take place, that have transformed the wilderness and the foresta into the beautiful farms and lovely homes. His hands knew no , idleness as a neighbor. He was cheeri tn’, and always ready to go their assistance. to help roll the logs, to help build the cabin, to help build ' the barn, to sit by the bedside of a ; si. k neighbor, to lend assistance in jany way that it was within his power Ito do, not placing his own interest ! r bove that of his fellows, as some who yet live can testify he was always a friend to the poor, and those wht m he knew stood in need of help, .on I often has it proven, that such , characters as he was, are imposed u>*>n. They knew his kinudliness. ' and indulgent nature, because of ' so., h traits of character. Many have lost the competence for which they have labored hard to earn, but this does not darken the lustre of their 1 kindliness, but it does throw a long dirk shadow across the pathway of ; that one who hoped to contribute to such sad delinquencies, as are to .be found scattered here and there i throughout this vast domain, which we call the laud of the free and the home of the brave; so to sum life up. it resolves itself at once into this thought: it is whether or not you are as good as this one, or whethc r you are far better, but you are what God himself wants you to be, for after all saying is said, whatever ; the profession you may make, you will stand the test not on there, but upon the merits of just what you are , for the Lord secth not as man seeth jor looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. He leaves to mourn their loss, three sons and three daughters, one brother and one sister, thirty-seven grandchildren, sixty-four greatgrandchildren, three great-great-great I grandchildren, and many older resi cents of Monroe township will miss his hearty greeting along the pathi way ot life, but let us not too deep- ; ly. unless we have added to his sor- : row, and if we have, let us repent , our wrongs and turn to the Lord, for \ it is written, he will have mercy, and unto God for he will abundantly pardon. o DR.
