LIFE DIARY OF MRS. WEAVER Her Experience Was A Very Sad One. NEVER AGAIN FOR MARTHA. She Brings Shame and Ridicule Upon Eerself—Husband a Willing Accomplice—They Both Were Taught A Lesson That Will Last Them Their Entire Lifetime.
[Copyrighted, 1914. by Thomas J. Sullivan.',! Do not judge from mere appearances. £ for the light laughter that bubbles on x the lip often mantles over the depth e of sadness, and the serious look may f , be the sober veil that covers a divine ‘ t I peace, and joy. The bosom may acbe i d I beneath diamond brooches, and many I ' a blithe heart dances under coarse wool. • Assuming the above to be true, we ( will proceed to tear a page from the j life diary of Mrs. Weaver and present it to our readers. | That New Suit. ' “What am 1 going to do about that ” new suit 1 must have?" said Martha l . Weaver to her busband as be came in | ' from work one evening j . “Wliy is there any question about ;] that? Go to Hopkins & Co. and get „ what you need If you need a suit get , it,” answered her tnjsband. I “1 have looked there,” replied i I Martha, ’but they haven’t anything s j that I want. 1 just need a simple suit. ■ a but 1 want good material, and it must ; f be neatly and well made, one that 1 * could use for almost any occasion. 1 would prefer a ready made suit, but those that Hopkins A- Co. have ap- 1 pear, to be made of poor, flimsy mate- ( rial, and they are decked out with such t cheap, flashy, dowdy trimming that 1 ‘ ' just cannot bear to wear them,” replied ‘ Martha. The False Ste>. i 1 ••Well, what do you want to do—run t < i into the city .Uid get you a suit?" I. •' j asked John. “No. That does not suit me either, , s I for when I have to pay my fare, my | < hotel bill aud other incidental expenses | ' it'luakes the cost too high and also I takes more time than 1 can spare for (he purchase As one suit,” said Martha < “Could you not order one? Didn't 1 i see some mail order catalogues around : here awhile ago?” asked the interested I husband. 1 "Yes; I could do that, but I am almost afraid to risk It. Still, their styles appear to be good, aud the prices quoted seem reasonable. I have been , thinking about doing that. 1 will look them up again and see what 1 can do.” answered Martha. Martha's Heart Sank. Martha had little difficulty in •Took- • ing up” the catalogue, as the house seemed full of them, and after critically examining the suit pictures a simple I CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODliness. yWe will keep your lineq t clean if you will only give us the 1 chance. blue took her fancy. The description corresponded with her idea of what she wanted; the trimming looked neat and of good quality. The price was satisfactory. so after debating for some lit tie time she decided to send for it. A draft was forwarded, and the long vigil j pendipg the arrival of the suit was as j depressing upon John as upon Martha, j At last it eame—express bill and all, —and eagerly the box was opened aud the suit laid on the bed for inspection It did net quite measure up to the proportions of the picture in the catalogue The color was not good There was too much coat and not enough skirt, and. besides, the skirt was not ■ draped as the advertisement said. It; just bung, aud hung uneven at that. I The work was not neat; the trimming was of cheap, showy quality, scant and inferior. Martha's heart sank to zero. She knew be ashamed to wear that suit at home, much less among her w ell dressed friends. j What was she to do? She needed a , suit badly, but she realized that to j attempt an exchange would result as disastrously as in the first place, and ' she could ill afford another new one. Defects Mere Pronounced. The longer Martha had the suit the more numerous and pronounced be-, came its defects, until at last her pride rebelled, and she refused longer to wear the miserable parody. She said she would much prefer to wear a “good” old suit than a “poor" new one. For with the poor new one she was conscious and ashamed when she felt any one looking at ler or her suit. Mr. and Mrs. Weaver held a consultation. after which Mrs. Weaver declared that never again in her life would she buy a picture or from a catalogue house. •Amen." said John. "We have had our lesson. Had yon bought that garment from any of our local merchants and it proved unsatisfactory he would have insisted on your exchanging it or refunding to you your money.” *• In a Receptive Mood. “So you actually went to church last Sunday?" “I really did.” "Excuse me if I seem skeptical. What was the text?" “Ahn. 1 have you there! The text was ’He giveth his beloved sleep.'” "Good work. And who were there?" "All the beloved, it seemed to me.”— Cleveland Plain Dealer. DRY CLEANING. Says Inside-bathing makes anyone look and feel clean, sweet and refreshed. Wash yourself on the inside bof r breakfast like you do on the out i lThis is vastly more important becai.s the skin pores do not absorb impurities into the blood, causing illness, while the bowel pores do. For every ounce of food and drink taken into the stomach, nearly an. ounce of waste material must b? carried out of tHe body. If this waste material is not eliminated day by day it quickly ferments and generates poisons, gases and toxins which are absorbed or sucked into the blood stream, through the lymph ducts which should suck only nourishment to sustain the body. A splendid health measure is to drink, before breakfast each day, a glass of real hot water with a teaspoonful of limestone phosphate in it. which is a harmless way to wash these poisons, gases and toxins from the stomach, liver, kidneys and bowels; thus cleansing, sweetening and freshening the entire alimentary canal befor putting more food into the stomach. A quarter pound of limestone phosphate costs but very little at the drug store but is sufficient to make anyone an enthusiast on inside-bathing. Men and women who are accustomed to wake up with a dull, aching head or have furred tongue, bad taste, nasty breath, sallow complexion, others who have bilious attacks, acid stomach or constipation are assured of pronounced improvement in both health and appearance shortly.
