I ———■ 1 Developments of the last few weeks i indicate that Indiana democracy rec--1 ognizes that it cannot afford to sacrifice efficiency in public service in or- , der to gain a point for party or factional political expediency. The leaders who direct the destinies of the democratic organization in this state are apparently trying to deserve the respect and support of those who are not hide-bound partisans. The candidacy of J. A. M. Adair and the appointment of L. Ert Slack are indications of the party’s attitude. Governor Ralston's administration has been a credit to those who nominated and elected him. He is a good man in the right place and is so recognized even by those of his political faith. In uniting on J. A. M. Adair as the candidate to follow him the governor’s friends are hoping to find a worthy successor. While Mr. Adair's action in congress has not always been pleasing to everybody, his capacity and integrity are generally conceded. No one is likely to contend that he is not a strong man to put forward in the gubernatorial contest- The selestion of L. Ert Slack to succeed Frank C. Dailey as United States district attorney will maintain the standard of service established in that office. Mr. Slack is a high-grade citizen and an attorney of experience and recognized ability, whose appointment will be met with approval regardless of politics. He may be depended upon to retain the confidence that has been accorded to administration of the affairs of that office during the regime of Mr. Dailey.—lndianapolis Star.
