OUNCE OF PREVENTION WORTH POUNDS OF CURE. Notice to Correspondents. (You are invited to write the Tuberculosis Editor of the Daily Democrat on any phase-of the tubefculosis problem. Your name will not be used without your permission. Please make your queations short. If you de-. •Ire n personal answer, be sure jo enclose a stamped, addressed envelope. Thia service Is absolutely free to the readers of the Daily Democrat.) Were you ever compelled to spend a night In a closed room, perhaps with other persoas! If you have, of course you have noticed the fresh clean ' "eniell” of the outdoor air the next morning. The air outdoors was no different ’ than usual, but the “freshness" of it was more noticeable by contrast with the stuffy air in the closed room. For ’ the “stuffiness" of the air you had been breathing all night was actually ' poisonous. It was charged with impurities thrown off by the lungs which ' had been forced to breath it again and ■ again, ''Stuffy" air In a bed room or anywhere else, causes your head to ache. You complain of "feeling tired” though yon have perhaps undergone no unusual physical exertion. Would you permit anyone to continually blow their breath in your face? Yet you might just as well do this as to force, your lungs to contiiiuaily breathe air that has been used repeatedly in the of another person. Fresh air is one of the Creator's greatest gifts, It surrounds us in great abundance. It is ours without charge. \ye can make our workshops abound with it, we can make our bej rooms.fresh and sweet and healthful in it, Nature intended for us to use it. By taking advantage ot our opportunities in this direction we can help throw off consumption or tsberculosis. Questions and Answers. To the Editor—What would you say of a case of tuberculosis of three years' standing running a temperature of 100 to 101, “patient” still working, till obliged to give up. Then going to the mountains, having an hemorhage three days after arrival, staying in bed twenty weeks without any temperature, getting up for gentle exercise and sleighing for another twenty weeks, still normal 981-5 day after day! IS it safe to return to In;liH. We can give yon no advice except to consult a competent physician and get Ills opinion. Would the sun striking the bm'i’ chest aid in the ewe of tuberculosis! 2, Is it generally found that a tm ’ bercular patient tvill expectorate less in summer than in winter? ' 2. What causes expectoration im- ' mediately after meals? 4. As a rale, what color sputum contains germs! ' 1 5. (a) Has foul breath any con- ’ wcllon with tuberculosis! (b) What is the cause of same! (c) What is the ' best remedy?—M. T. 1 1, The use of the sun's rays in I the treatment of tuberculosis 1 seems to be particularly advisable in 1 so-called surgical tuberculosis, but in 1 these cases the whole body is expos- ■ ed to the sun for gradually increas--1 iug lengths o' time. We know of no 1 reports proving tiiat the mere expos- ■ uro of the chest to the sun is of value ' in pulnn nary tuberculosis. 2. No. ! 3.
