FOR HOME AND MOTHER (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) to be done by the true mother. The training of a Martin Luther, or a Bunyon or a Lincoln is greater thr.n being president or king. The nan who builds a railroad or tt battle ship dees a great thing but the mother who brings up a boy of noble character to love God and serve his country well does a greater thing—the greatest thing in the world. Bather would I see my own little ones laid away in the grave tomorrow and miss from «ny life henceforth all their love and go with empty anus and sobbing heart through this world to lifes close than to attempt to train them, teach them and lead them on without Gods help. Hannah a Rewarded Mother. For all the costs she made for Samuel. For all the prayers she offered for him, for all the toll and anxiety she got abundant satisfaction in the piety and usefullness and popularity of her son, Samuel and that is true in all ages. Every mother gets full pay for all the prayers and tears in behalf of her children. My prayer for you mothers is that you may have the joy of seeing your children grow up stalwart, true chrirtian men and women, nobly playing their part in lifes conflict. Oh the pang of that mother, who after a life of street (Adding and gossip sees her children tossed out on the sea of life like foam on the wave or nonentities in a world only bravery and stalwart character can stand the shock. / Last Nights Sermon. Text Job 2:4, “All that a man has will he give for life.” After a few minutes introductory, Rev. Honeywell sald:We are weighted ( in the gospel balances. I will tell you what they are. They are the ten commandments. First commandment: “Thou shall have no gods before me?” What is a man's God? A man’s God is.the one thing he thinks of most If a man thinks more of money than anything else, money is his God; and many a man here tonight is worshiping the god of wealth. Many a man is sacrificing conscience sacrificing honor, sacrificing obedience to God to gain money. There are men who worship gold today just as truly as though they made a golden calf and knelt and yrayed to it. Iscariot Better. You society people betray Christ to his enemies and theu for a pretense of His love give a charity ball. I would rather be Jusas Iscariot; lie had less light. Society, the heartless wretch; society, the leech of the soul; when it comes to a choice of pleasing Gbd or pleasing society, many will slap God in the face and turn and please ociety. Society is their God. Many a man worships whiskey. How many a man is sacrificing his brain power, his business ability, their respect of his fellow citizens, the reverence and love of his wife and children in devotion to the cursed whisky. The second commandment is sc closely allied with the first I shall pass it by. The third commandment deals v. itb profanity. We are the most profane nation in the world. A mother can't send iter little boy down the street without some wretch sowing the said of profanity in his heart. Sabbath Desecration. Sabbath observance- has been the bulwark of our national strength. ) am against any ordinance of any man or any band of men that aliovz or encourage any violation of the Sabbath day. If you find me a man who keeps the Sabbath day holy, I will show you a man who will keep every other dav of the week holy. Show me the man who will desecrate the Sabbath and 1
will sliow you the man who will desecrate every other day of the week. Fifth commandment, "Honor they lather and thy mother, etc.” We are getting into the day when the young think they know more than their parents, speaking lightly about “the old man and old woman.” They think father and mother old fugle: and tiiat they know it all and that when they die wisdom will di/, too. Show me tlie young man who speaks slightly of father and mother mid I will show you a fellow doomed to failure and defeat. Show me the young girl who is ashamed of Iyer mother and disobeys her and 1 will show you a girl who will never amount to much. Show me the boy or girl who respect and honor father and love mother and 1 will show those with success gleaming out before them. Many Ways Os Killing. The sixth commandment says: “Thou shalt not kill.” You may say you are all rig* on this commandment that there are no murderers here, that it might be all right to preach on such a commandment to an audience in the slums of Chicago, but wide of the mark in a law-abiding town like this. There are many other ways of killing besides driving a dagger into the heart or firing a bullet into the brain. Many a husband is killing his wife by neglect, cruelty and unfaithfulness. Many a woman is hastening to her grave with a broken heart because she has learned that the man who swore to be true to her is unfaithful to his vow. There are many mothers sleeping in your graveyard tonight killed by ungrateful sons. If there is any hand in the world that is scarlet with the blood of murder, it is that of a woman who murders h/r unborn babe; and there are many men who call themselves physicians who will act as helpers in the hellish business. We call them M. D. 1 would call them D. M. —Damnable Murderers. Every one of them should be strung up. I cannot discuss before a mixed audience the seventh commandment about adultry. I have enough sense to know that; but this sin is blighting our nation and the judgments of God are on your track. The woman untrue to her husband, and the man untrue to his wife, the curse cf God is sure to follow. What is it to steal? To steal is to take property from another within giving adequate equivalent in either I property or money in return. The man who sells a piece of goods as all wool when it is part cotton is a thief. The man who sells 1.950 pounds of coal for a ton is a thief. The man who sells 34 inches of cloth for a y rd is a thief. The gambler is a thief. If he gambles and wins he is a thief. If lie gambles and loses he is a fool. So the gambler is either a fool or a thief. You can take your choice. 4 O WANTED —Hustler in each county ?s agent for first-class line of Paints and Rooting. THEY ORGANIZE (CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) men "of social committee, Abbie ihg ham and Nola Snyder; chairmen of look-out committee, Muriel Leonard, Ireta Butler and Ramona Smith. By a popular vote, Mrs. C. E. Bell w:u elected as leader of the girls class and the girls are satisfied that their choice could not have been bette r . Mrs. Bell has become a true friend ot all young people and her success as a Bible class teacher is already assured. There was an attendance oi eighty-five girls at the meeting, nil anxious to do their part in the Bible class work. At the boys' meeting there was a.i unusually good attendance and the boys are entering Into the work wi . h the same true Christian spirit th.it the girls have also shown in the move nient. Subjects of much importance and interest to all were discussed officers for the coming meetings oi' the Bible class were elected. The officers are: President, Clelland Ball; vice president, Kenyon Walters; secretary, Ellis Christen; treasurer, Francis Stephenson; chairman of io ’k out committee, Marion Archbold: chairman of social committee, Robert Colter. These young men are fully capable of handling the affairs of the class and it is useless to say they will rut their minds and hearts in the work to make it a success. The leader or teacher has not yet been appointed but the boys are considered the matter vejy seriously and a teacher will be appointed in the near future. The most important subject discussed was on the matter of finding and maintaining auite of rooms where the young people of Decatur mig.it find pleasure in spending a few hours each day. A place has been sighted, and the officers as a committee will look Into the matter. Mr. Clase an) Rev. Honeywell are both doing al’ they possible can to land the boys a Y. M. C. A. or reading rooms. The boys want it made known that no one is barred from this class, no matter to what denomination you belong. you are as welcome in the meetings as any one and if you are a booster your place is in the line with the rest of the boys. Don’t hang back, but step right out and help the fellows get what this community is very much in need of.
THE YOUNG MAN. The successful business man of today is the man that made his way by practicing economy, and step by step has reached the highest mark of prosperity. The great men of our country were poor boys, the only resources at their command being brains and ambition, but by persistent push and 1 energy have gained not only wealth but fame as well. If you should ask these men why they are successful in life they will tel! you, by practicing the most rigid economy, by saving every penny and nickel coming their way. The young men of today have the same opportunity, remember that every nickel and dime counts on the road to fame and wealth. Young men your opportunity is here now, you have the great savings institution, the United States Postal Sayings System, where you can start with 10 cents; try this system: cut out a few luxuries each day and see how these dimes will grow. It will be only a short time when you will have a good petal savings account, and you will he surprised at the results, and howeasy it is to save money. The depository of this great system is at the postoffice, Decatur, Ind.
