Tom Gallogly is confined to his home on account of illness. Mesdames Jesse Sellemeyer and Jack Dailey were Fort Wayne visitors today. James Hurst, Martin Mylott and Peter Kirsch are at Ohio City on business for the city. The weekly dance of the Maxixe Dancing club will be given tomorrow night at the K. of C. hall. Miss Lorimore of Fort Wayne will be the instructor. • A number from this city are planning to attend the opening of the new Palace theater at Fort Wayne next Monday. Governor and Mrs. Ralston will be present. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Manning left this morning for Richmond to visit for several days with relatives. From that city they will go to Greencastle for a short visit and then return to their home in this city. Mrs. John Christen left this morning for Toledo, Ohio, where she will visit with her son-in-law, the Rev. B. B. Uhl, and family, and her sons, Bert and Jesse Christen, who are pharmacists there. Mrs. Jennie Todd returned to Chicago this morning. She has been here on account of the illness and death of her father, R. D. Patterson. She was accompanied to Fort Wayne by nor sister, Mrs. French Quinn. Several people who expected to get on the 5:45 interurban car Tuesday night at the Monroe street corner were compelled to cancel their trip on account of missing the car, which resulted from the fact that the court house clock was not lighted. Many people depend on this clock and when it is not lighted they are greatly inconvenienced.
Mrs. C. V. Connell went to Fort Wayne today noon. Mrs. Herman Yake went to Fort Wayne today noon for a visit. C. C. Schug of Berne was a business visitor here today. Fred Rohrer of Berne was a business visitor here today. Emil Egly went to Fort. Wayne to call on his wife at the Lutheran hospital. She is getting along well. John Niblick, who has been confined to ills bed since Sunday, is able to be up today and it is thought will soon be able to be out again. Fred Rohrer of the Berne Witness, and becoming well known on the lecture platform over the state, was here tills morning for a short time and made this office a pleasant call. Mrs. Flo I*Blloo went to Ft. Wayie this morning to call on lier daughter, Miss Mary, at the Lutheran hospital, where she lias been ill four weeks today of typhoid fever. She is getting along nicely. The cast for the home talent show, “Down in Alabam,” to be given tue 28th and 29th of this month, under tlie auspices of the Woman’s City Improvement society, rehearsed last 'evening for the first time. A man director from Fort Wayne is instructing the cast. . Mr. Parker, producer of “Down in Alabam,” which is being given under the auspices of the Womens Civic improvement society, arrived in the city yesterday and held the first rehearsal last evening at the Central school school building. About forty young people are required to give tlie rendition. John Witscher, thirty, a drayman, of Fremont, standing in a window of. his home, sent two bullets Into his wife's head and body, using a repeating rifle. He shot her as she was leaving the house with clothes for herself and children. He then tied a string to the trigger and sent a bullet into his Own head. Both died immediately. Mrs. Witscher, fifteen minutes before, had visited the court house with her attorney and filed a divorce petition. Another crowd of Italians has left this city for their home across the sea, concerned, they said, about the welfare of their families during the present chaotic condition of Victor Emmanuel’s country. Twenty-three foreigners, employed at the American Wndovl' Glass factory here, resigned and started on the long trip home Monday. Their names would fill nearly a column of hierglyphics and would be meaningless to the ordinary American. It is interesting to note, however, that i the earthquake in Italy so vitally interests the Italians here that so many | of them have left for home. Howmver, I it may be said that the earthquake is I not the only cause for their departure. | It is said that many of them expect I to join the colors when they arrive in Italy and get ready to enter the European war. The Italians here have been watching developments in Europe eagerly during the past few ■months.—Hartford City Times.

Mrs. Mary Marbaugh went to Monmouth this afternoon for a short visit. Charles Schug, the Berne automobile merchant, was a visitor in the city this afternoon. Miss Peurl Wallheater ot Fort Wayne was a visitor in this city yesterday with relatives and.friends. • Martin Brunnegraff left this morning for Richmond for a several days’ visit with his brother, Mike Urunnegraft. Martin Jacobs of Minster, Ohio, left this morning for Cincinnati, Ohio, after a two weeks' visit with his sister, Mrs. Janies Brunnegraff. Tlie Gay, Zwick & Myers furniture store room is being nicely improved. The walls are being repapered in a very handsome manner and the interior woodwork repainted. The’ color scheme Is buff. Messrs. William Nieman, John Belinsky and Mr. Schott of Jefferson township left last evening for Toledo, Ohio, on a several days' business trip. While here they were the guests of Mrs. James Brunnegraff. Harry Ward, presidence of the fence company, who has been gardening in Florida for several months, is here to look after business at tlie sac - tory. Tlie orders are coming in now and tlie prospects for a good year seem bright. o POLICE COURT. Undoubtedly experiencing a change of heart, Harry Williams, the tramp arrested last week on a vagrancy charge, end having several razors m his possession, confessed to the theft of the blanket that was found in th--of another tramp, which was the projierty of George Hili. Williams told Chief Melchi that it was no use to send an innocent man to pris-i on and said that he had given the tramp the blanket. Melchi immediately filed an affidavit against Williams before Mayor Christen on the charge of larceny this afternoon gave the other tramp his liberty. Williams was brought to trial last evening and was given a fine of ten dollars and costs and thirty days in jail.
