TIKE YOURJ*LACE In the Line of Battle Against Tuberculosis — Every ! Seal « I may be a bullet: — Against the Foe—The Women Should Take the Responsibility. I , RED CROSO The holiday season is now at hand and with it the annual campaign of Rod Cross Christmas seals. This is the one occasion during the whole year when \the qpneral public is asked to assist in the anti-tubercu-losis movement, when all citizens are urged, in this important work, to contribute liberally, not only of their ■ means, but of their time and services, insofar as it is possible. It is the call to arms, so to speak, to battle against the common foe, tuberculosis. As in the strife between nations, when women, as well as men are called to duty, so in this war, women are again and again called to the front, to take their place in the line of bat tie. For several years the club women of Indiana have rendered valuable service in these annual sales of Red Cross Christmas seals, but tin need for recruits is greater with each passing year, if we would ever be more successful in this conflict. This war. like that across the sea, is one long duration and the united forces of all of us are needed to eventually crush this bitter enemy to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Hut unlike that same war in which only men are slain, and women Jest to
mourn and enduro hardships, the foe In this battle claims men, women and children as its victims. Its ravages do not overtake uh with the suddenness of a dnmdunt bullet, hut like a ! thief In the night it stealthily attacks i those, whom it would like to devour, and because of this very fact, we are prone to bo somewhat unmindful of | Ils general results. Our hearts have been stirred in rej cent months by accounts of the atrocious war raging across the waters, , the terrible loss of life, the agony, the j heart breaks, the hunger, the homeless, and our people have contributed generously of their means in the effort jto alleviate in some measure, the • dreadful conditions; all of which is : greatly to our credit. Rut let us not forget even now in the midst of the : dire distress of the Belgians, the wan 1 faces in our own land who are calling , us, the sufferers from that dread disease, tuberculosis, which carries off ■ annually in our state more I of its citizens. May every Indiana woman feel a new responsibility in this connection and also a new consecration to duty. us all rally our forces in the coming days to increase the sale of Red Cross Christmas seals beyond that of any previous year in order that we may more effectively fight and In the end conquer this monster, the great "white plague.” o NOTICE.
