It states J that the acreage is the largest ever had here and nas increased, that is the < farmers have planted more than they contracted for, instead of the reverse | as heretofore. Conditions of the crop f at this time are most favorable. END ISJN SiChT ' Back Down of Huerta is Be- ' lieved to be His Final I Word of Opposition. “ u *"' DELEGATES JUBILANT And Believe That Nothing Now Stand Between Mediation and Peace. Washington, June B—(Special to Dally Democrat) —Mexican skies were clearing this afternoon. An air of jubilation was discerned at both the state department and White House. The end of Huerta is believed to be in sight His backing down of the Tampico blockade was accepted as his final word in opposition. The administration believes he sees the hand writing on the wail and will soon cease to be a factor in the affair of Mexico. Mexico City, June 8,- —(Special to Daily Democrat,)—The Huerta government today contermanded the order for a blockade of Tampico. Tills act by Huerta is believed to have followed the receipt of word that the United States would not permit a blockade. The Huerta cabinet realized the utter futility of facing the .American naval forces. (By Nevins) Washington, June 8, — (Special to ■>iiy Democrat,) —Much relief was! shewn today by officials when they learned that Huerta had backed down on his threat to blockade Tampieo. Tills change will make It unneceessary for the United States to show thuir hand, apparently in favor of the constitutionalists. The Spanish ambassa dore today officially notified the state department of Huerta's ehr u.’ed poaition. He said the governn. ut gave no reason. The A. B. C. mediators had lieen bringing pressure to bear on the Huerta commission to prevent Huerta from raising any obstacle that would defeat mediation. High govern inent officials were inclined to accept this as an indication that the mediators will allow Caranza to enter into no conference on his own terms. Niagara Falla. Junes, —(Special te Daily Democrat,)—Long code messages exchanged between the Mexican delagates and Huerta were 'bdHeved to have resulted In the dictators act calling off the blockade of Tampico. The American delegates were to com fer with the mediators at 11 o'clock. The exact position of the Mexicans on the Tampico matter was to be outlined. An official reply from Carranza as to his participation in mediation was still being awaited. There is little hope that the conatitutionalists will come in without negotiations. The position of Carranza is a puzzle. ■ <■ I.' >■■■ NOTICE.
