Reports from Niagara Falls, Canada, whore the board of mediation on the Mexican affair are in session indicate strong probabilities of a satisfactory agreement. If the plan succeeds it will be another notable victory for President Wilson. The Port Wayne business houses have announced that they will close all day Saturday on account of Decoration Day. To accommodate the farmers and others of this community the Decatur stores will be kept open Saturday as usual. With wool selling at 22c per pound, the highest price for several years, the high tariff on wool advocates are ashamed to look a sheep in the face. Looks like they have been lying on the American sheep when they argyVd that our sheep were not able to take care of themselves and needed ‘‘protection" against the pauper sheep of Europe and Australia. —Portland Sun. There are certain people who seem to have succeeded in convincing themselves that President Wilson has suffered. greatly in popularity, and that he has lost his hold on the people. We do not suppose that there is any ipau in the country who is less concerned than Woodrow Wilson about his per sonal popularity. He would, no doubt, be sorry to see his party suffer, but we imagine that be would rather sec it suffer while doing the right thing than prosper while Coing nothing. the direction of the trust problem. The banking and currency bill has been received with favor. The objection tc me tanit mil is merely the objection that would have been raised against any low tariff measure. Mr. Wilson, however, is going steadily forward in carrying out the policies, not of himself, but of the Democratic party. His object is, not primarily, or even chiefly to carry an election, but to keep faith with the people. Least of all is lit thinking about what may happen t< him. Having no personal ambition, h< can not be Influenced or controlled bj the fear that haunts those who have such ambition. It may, after all, be found—and it will not be a new di. covery—that the surest way to wii popularity is through faithful and fear less service of the people.—ludianapo lis News. | DOINGS lITsOCIETYj WEEK'S SOCIAL CALENDAR.
