SENDS CHALLENGE. The following challenge has been received by the Democrat to print: "Manager Decatur Base Ball Club: “The Berne Independent ball club issues a challenge for a game of ball to be played in Decatur on Firemen's day. and if the manager will write or 'phone Andrew A. Pond, Berne, Ind.., arrangements can'' be made to suit both clubs. A. A PO.NO, “Manager.” It Is very doubtful whether the locals boys will answer th© challenge or not as on that day no attention whatever would be paid to a ball game, tho firemen having arranged for all the entertainment necessary. MR. BECK IN THE Charles B. Beck of Richmond, now traveling for the Maumee Rubber company out of Toledo, Ohio, was in the city today on business and looking up friends. Mr. Beck was appointed Postmaster at Richmond his term to begin next spring and at present is chairman of the sixth Democratic district and one of the foremost citizens in Richmond both in the political and business way. He will resign his position with Maumee Rubber company the first of the year to take his new post. KNIGHTS OF KING ARTHUR.
