C. N. Christen made a business trip to Geneva this morning. John Hoffman went to Monroeville this morning on business. William Mougey of Fort Wayne spent Sunday in the city with relatives. Dan Costello was home from Fort M ayne to spend Sunday with her parents. Abe Boch and family are moving today into the Dan Erwin house in Lakeside, Fort Wayne. D. F. Leonard and family will occupy the Boch residence here. Paul Baumgartner has leased a house on North Second street and will move bis family here from Berne during the time he serves as deputy for Auditor Baltzell. Billie Burke says: “Most women who do not work outside their homes think that it Is only “cakes and ale” to make a living for four or five de- ' pendent people; they look about them jat other women who have made a success in man's work and are sure . that they could do the same, but few of them would work as the man or ! woman who earns even a modest compensation.”

Agnes Starost returned to her work at Fort Wayne this morning after spending Sunday in the city with her parents. John Lachot left on his weekly business trip this morning from here to Plymouth and then over to Nappanee, Indiana. Mrs. William Badders of Fort Wayne, who is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Sam Frank, went to Fort Wayne for the day. George Geels of this city and Henry Rykoff and daughter, Rosa, of Terre Haute went to Fort W’ayne this morning to spend the day. Misses Louise Brake and Amelia Weber returned from Fort Wayne this morning after spending Sunday with Miss Ludmilla Lauer. Miss Jennie Ernst returned to her school work at the Fort W’ayne business college this morning after spending Sunday in the city with relatives. Mrs. Richard Koaugh and son, Edwin, and Mrs. Cowan and daughter, Dorothy, of Fort Wayne were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Boyers and family over Sunday. Misses Kate and Ruth Hammell, with their brother. Will, returned this morning from Bryant, where they 1 spent Sunday as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Schull. Henry Rykoff and daughter. Miss Rosa, of Terre Haute will leave for their home Wednesday after visiting in the city with the George Geels family for a few days. Mrs. R. Ernsoerger received word this morning from Marion, informing her of the serious illness of her cousin, Mrs. Ray Slick. Mrs. Emsberger left today for Marion to be at the bedside of her cousin.—Bluffton News. Miss Mary Swartz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Swartz, residing' in Adams county, is confined to her home by a severe attack of appendicitis. She is well known here and formerly made her home with several Bluffton families.—Bluffton News. Frank Runyan, of the Grove Garage company, had his hand bitten by a dog belonging to a farmer residing north of Preble this morning. He was trying to pet the animal and it mistook his friendly efforts and snapped at him. The flesh in the thick part of the forefinger of the right hand was lacerated.—Bluffton News. Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart and son, with their guests, Mrs. Armstrong and daughter, motored to Warren Sunday afternoon and spent a few hours with Mrs. Stewart's parents, Mr. and Mrs. jW. L. Ruggles. Mrs. Ruggles suffered ian attack of the grip while visiting at the Stewart home during the winter, and has not yet fully recovered. James L. Zimmerman, of southwest of Peterson, went to Jackson, Mich., Thursday to get his new 1913 Cutting touring car. The car ig fully equipped, with a self electric starter and electric lights. This makes Mr. Zimmerman the owner of one of the most complete touring cars bought here this spring. The car was bought through tljp Zimmerman agency. He was accompanied by Dr. H. E. Keller, Charles S. Niblick, of the Old Adams County bank, his son, Fred Zimmerman and Charles Zimmerman. Fed LaDelle has returned from a two weeks’ play. Last week he was at the Arcade theater, Toledo, Ohio, and the week prior at the Lyceum theater, Cincinnati, Ohio. He had been booked to play this week with the Broadway theater in Detroit, but the engagement was cancelled. The Central Vaudeville circuit, under whose direction he is, had then wanted to send him to Niagara Falls, but he declined, owing to the long trip. Owing to the floods, many theaters in the Ohio cities are closed.
