WAB GOOD SAMARITAN. Grevar Harner Claims, and Should ba Commanded. Grover C. Horner was released from the county Jail Wednesday evening, and charges of fornication that were filed Monday against/hfm were dismissed from the docket in the court of Mayor Frank Smith, on motion of Deputy Prosecuting Attorney John F. Decker. 'The woman bad been at liberty all the time on her own recognizance. Insvetigation of the case by Deputy Prosecutor Decker convinced him that the complaining parties had not sufficient evidence to warrant the state in prosecuting the case, hence the dismissal. I j The claim of Horner was that he I simply was a roomer at the home of I j Mrs. Brandyberry and her sister, Mrs. Burke, and that he occupied a room in the front part of the house, iwhich he had furnished himself and I that the women occupied the rear portion of the house. He claimed that . he rarely was in the company of. the I women except at meal times. I In his story to the prosecuting at- | torney, Mr, Horner claimed that he ( rented the house in question on East, ( Arnold street for Mrs. Burke and her ( children last winter when they were in trying circumstances, and he thought that instead of censure he deserved commendation for his act in helping provide a warm home for them. There had been some complaint by neighbors, but Mr. Decker said that evidence they offered the state for use in the proposed prosecution was Insufficient, and that there was not sufficient evidence to successfully contradict Horner’s claim that he simply was a roomer and boarded at the home of Mrs. Burke. Horner promised the prosecuting attorney that he would agree not to room longer at the home of Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Brandyb-rft- if this was displeasing to those who instituted the proceedings.—Bluffton News. MAKING IMPROVEMENTS. W. R. Smith and son, who recently purchased the Schlickman restaurant and bakery, nave begun a series of im- ; provements.
