Mrs. Hower went last * week to attend this and found tliAt she was just a week ahead of the time set' for the party. ' To keep pace with the high cost of I livjng and the high price of leather, in particular, it is interesting to note , that the price of the Red Cross shoe has advanced fifty cents on the local 'market, now' selling for $4.00. This,. ■is however, as low as the shoe has I been selling for several years, in , neighboring cities. | Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown of Willshire, Ohio, changed cars here this I morning on their way to Fort Wayne Ito call on his sister, Mrs. Oliver Johnson. Mr. Brown recently had a narrow escape when he was caught in a I fly-wheel of an engine in Willshire, suffering several minor injuries. Harry Fleming, principal of the South Ward school house, returned to his duties there this morning after an enforced vaontion of nearly a week on account of illness. He became ill last Friday noon, just after returning to school. He suffered a fainting attack and it was necessary to take him home in a cab, where with rest and good care, he has soon recovered. The Geneva fire bell called the volunteers to a fire at the home of William Daugherty, an old man who lived > alone in an old house in the south part of town. The building was burning at a lively rate when it was discovered, and before the fire company could get there, there was no hope of saving the building. It was late at night and all the neighbors had retired and ample opportunity was afforded for the fire to gain a headwav. No other loss was occasioned by the I fire than the loss of the house, owing to the still air and the fact that the roofs of the adjoining houses were wet. It was first thought Mr. Daugherty had perished, but it later developed that he had gone for a visit in the country. I The news columns on this page are set aside for the locals, that is telling ' our readers who is going away- either to spend the day with friends, on a business trip, or for some other pur- ' pose, but when these people go away and ask the reporter not to mention ‘ the fact in the paper, we win have to '■ fill up a little space with something ( else. For instance, this morning one of the reporters on this paper met a morning train and found that there were four persons in all who were going away. Out of these four three asked him not to put their names in the paper. The reporter did not ask the 1 fourth person where he or she was going, as his nerve failed him a little after being “turned down” so early in the morning. o Ft. Wayne & Springfield Ry. Company.
