John, lormer president of DePauw university, and one of the best known lecturers on religious subjects In this country, is conducting s series st .the Methodist church this week. Dr. John formerly was a newspaper man and be lores the smell of the ink and the nimble at the wheels still. He always manages to call on the editor, and his smile and a story or two go a long ways toward taking the "kink" out of a hard day's work. Here's one ho told us: “A gentleman was lecturing before a large audience and for an hour or more he held them spell bound As he concluded he asked If there was any one present who eared to ask s question, and immediately there rose a stern faced, Atraham Uncoln-look Ing fellow, who said, “Yes. can you tel) me how to find the greatest com mon divisor?” It was unlooked for, and almost stunned the lecturer, whose face, however, soon again look on the light of intelligence, as fie pointed directly at the questioner and replied. "Yes, advertise for it"*
