Smith at the banquet given by the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, at Fort Wayne, was a gem and the best toast of the evening. The occasion was most delightful, and all northern Indiana take off their hats to those who have in charge the destinies of Mazpah Temple. Mrs. Hetty Green, who frankly admits that she doesn't know whether she is worth >36,000,000 or >200,000.000, says that she always chews on a baked onion when she is hungry, and she insists that M a result of this policy she has not had a sore threat in twenty years—which may remind jou that eminent scientists agree that there are malignant microbes in a kiss. —Indianapolis News. Congressman Adair was in the city for a snort time today meeting his i. lends for the last time before returning to the seat of government at Washington for the regular session of congress which meets the first of the coming month. Congressman Adair is more firm than ever in his belief th'tt the democrats will convince the coun try of their ability to manage the affairs of this natio*. He thinks that congress .will conservatively and sanely handle all matters or legia’ation in compliance with any and all platform promises, and that a fair trial of the democratic theories of government will be given. Newspaper correspondents are running wild and for the neat few months will continue printing absurd stories about the ambitions and the desir•■■> of certain great and good men For Instance Bryan is going into the cabinet and he is not going into the cabinet, he is not going to tn* asked to go into the cabinet, and so on to the end. It Is all very entertaining for ih<> readers of these great newspapers which print the conflicting stories, but tbe public will refuse to be »t*m|ied*d in the least. Tlie coming admlnistra tion ot President-elect Wilson will be judged by its acts and its acta alone it is not interested in fake cabinet sppointantou nor in who la going to be elected aonator from Indiana or any other state two years hence NOTICE. Miss Ethel Smith, now residing at Lafontaine, to be her guests at Thanksgiving dinner. They are anticipating a very good time. Last winter the Pythian Sisters <ll- - thorp pelves into two sections for the raising of money for the district convention held here. To add interest they agreed that the side that made the most money should be entertained by the others. The section lead by Mrs. James Bain lost by about three dollars and ine section of which Mrs. Charles Llzey was leader, was declared the winner. The section, however, decided to wait until cooler weather for the entertainment, and this was given Friday evening. It was a Thanksgiving party and corn, pumpkins, turkey pictures, etc., were used effectively in decorating. The idea was also carried out in the amusements. In a corn hunt. Miss Vera Hunsicker was the prize winner and ip a contest of pinning the turkey's head, Mrs. Florence Patton was the ' most successful. Biting the swinging ' apple was another amusing contest. A feature much appreciated was the mu ' steal program. A duet was given by 1 tbe Missaa Vera Hunsicker and Merie Leonard and a vocal solo by Mias Hallie The banquet was a fine spread. The small tables in the din ing room were arranged in a circle 1 stout the room and the decorations centered in the larger table In the center of the circle Small pumpkins, i turkeys and candb-3 were attractively a r ranged here *nd in lieu of a boil Hquet of flowers, pop-corn In the husk - was used. The banquet was served from the following menu: Bouillon, bread and butter sandwiches, cranberry sauce, veal loaf. Waldorf salad, pimentos and cheese moulded in the form of carrots, pickles olives, coffee, K< cream and c»'.e. I ‘ The Miss* Vera Meyers. Flora ' Fledderjohann and Ijeah Apt will go to Ft.
