Notable among the Hallowe'en parties of the week was that given Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mis. Dan Vail on Madison street, by Mrs. Vail and Mrs. ,1. O. Sellemeyer. Streamers in pumpkin color crepe paper were festooned tn an artistic way about the window and door archways, and caught to the draperies with black cats, witches, hats and blackyellow eyed pumpkin faces cut from paper. The stitlrway was also draped with black-witch design paper, and Hallowe'en spirits peeped forth from every conceivable place. The chandelier lights were softened with yellow faced hoods, and candles twinkled here and then* with their soften-'d light. The dining room was especially pretty. The centerpiece of the round table was a pumpkin head. wi*h white fringe hair peeping forth from w itches' cap. The head rested on a white-frilled mat and beneath the chin rested a black Ikjw The edge of the table was outlined with witch designs, and from the edges to the dome of the chandelier over the ta-
ble, ran black threads on which black witches on broom sticks rode apparently in air. The afternoon was given over entirely to Hallowe'en entertainment.: In a contest in pinning the tal| on a black cat, Mrs Kundcll was awarded the prize. In a bat word contest, Mrs. Dsn Sprang was the most successful. Partners (or the luncheon were found by matching Hallowe'en postcards The luncheon wag served In two courses on lap boards | and carried out !h<- pumpkin shad s The oiange Ice was serred in tall glass cups, the handles of which were (led with orange tulle.
