Mrs. Eli Sprunger was at Portland today to attend the funeral of a little niece, held at 10 o’clock this morning. Mrs. Henry Bauman Llm daughter, Mary, of Monmouth, returned home on the 4 o’clock car after shopping here yesterday. Prosecuting Attorney R. C. Parrish, sunburned browned as a berry, returned last evening from Rome City, where he spent several days.

Martin Mylott is home from Fort Wayne, where be was looking after some business pertaining to the city. Miss Velma Erwin returned this morning from Delpltos, Ohio, whdre she visited with her brother, Ralph Erwin. Dr. Boye ". was a Indianapolis today to attend the state board medical meet of which he is one of the mem bers. He will return tonight. Mrs. S M. Pallson and children of Fort Wayne transferred here today on their way to Monroe to visit with the J. W. Merriman family for a short time. Miss Esther Enos will leave next week for Monroeville, where she will visit. From there, she will go to Paulding, Ohio, for a further visit and will be gone until school opens. Mrs. Leona Jackson of Indianapolis, who has been visiting with the Paul Baumgartner and Jackson families, left yesterday afternoon fur her home, going byway of Fort Wayne. Ed Fritzinger and Mrs. Malinda Rehrig of Allentown, Pa, bro'her and sister of Erastus Fritznger, who have been visiting here, left this morning for Anderson to continue their stayprevious to leaving fw their home.

Confer, deputy secretary of state, of Indianapolis is in the city looking up friends and atactors here this morning. Ray Marquardt of Decatur has enlisted in the marine corps. He was sent to Norfolk, Va.. yesterday to remain there until he is assigned to duty.—Fort. Wayne News. The little son of John Meyers nf Vera Cruz, who suffered a fractured leg a few weeks ago, is reported doing nicely. The member was given a fresh dressing this morning.—Bluffton News. Mr. Burk of Indianapolis, with the Southern Union Fire Insurance company, returned home last evening after calling on Frank Kern, and placing the agency for his company with him. The new truck wheel for the fire apparatus is here and ready to be placed on the new truck in place of the old one which was badly damaged in a run to the Adams heading factory fire several weeks ago. Deuran and sister, Mrs. Rosa Leisure of Decatur, passed through this city Wednesday evening on their, way home from Petroleum, where they have been visiting their father, Ezra Deuran. —Bluffton Banner. A. B. Bailey returned to Fort Wayne after attending to business here. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kuhn of Canton, Ohio, are guests of the Charles Erwin family. John Schug returned this afternoon from the south to spend Sunday with his family. Mr. and Mrs. Bowen returned to St. Joe, after a visit with their daughter, Mrs. Ed Johnson. Miss Ruth Chapman and Mr. Shirley Faulkner returned to Shirely City after a visit with Mrs. Rebecca Phipps. The Misses Doris DeVoss and Naomi Van Camp left on the 1 o’clock car for Monmouth, where they attended a picnic. The Misses Vivian Burke, Grave and Anna Gerard and Cora Peck left on the 2:30 car for Monmouth to! join tthe picknickers. Miss Jessie Simison of Berne, who has been visiting with fiends here, left on the 2:30 car for Fort Wayne, where she will visit. Joe Bremerkamp has returned from Decatur, 111., where he visited his son, Jack, who has been quite sick for some weeks, and who is doing nicely. Ira Oswald, who purchased the Schlegel property on Elm street, is rapidly completing the remodeling of the home and will have a first-class residence. The annual reunion of the Magley families will be held at Robison park,: Wednesday, July 31st. The families include members in Allen, Adams Wells and Whitley counties, Indiana, as well as various parts of Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Blossom and son, Brooks, of Pittsfield, 111., who have been visiting here with his relatives, left this morning for Waterloo, where they will be guests of Mrs. Blossom’s relatives before returning home. Mr. Blossom is a former Adams county boy, and is now superintendent of the schools at Pittsfield. Duke Stoops of Petersburg, Ind., camo in last evening enroute home after three weeks’ trip through the east, including the Baltimore convention, four days in New York, a trip to Pea Girt, where he called on the next president, a trip up the Hudson by boat and many other pleasures. He will visit here until Monday, when he w>n return to his home. J. H. Steele of St. Mary’s township came near losing a two hundred dollar horse Thursday evening. He had just turned the horse into the pasture lot, when it was attacked by a cow, who hooked him with her horn, just above the breast Done. The horn must have struck an artery for the blood spurted out in a stream. Mr. Steele’s son, Guy, grabbed hold of the skin about the wound and held it shut until help could be secured.
